When companies became involved and wanted to spoil the golden goose, the government stepped in to save the goose. Now the courts have given the companies the rope to kill the goose.
I love the great leap from “It has water” to “helping lay the foundation for life on the planet.” That’s one small step for a sentence; one giant leap in logic.
I’m guessing that any organic material will have problems staying alive in space, plus being able to survive the entry into Earth’s atmosphere, and also withstanding the giant impact when it hits the Earth. That is one tough organism. The most this tells us is that there is / could be other organic life in the universe, which to me is far better.
We will never know how life started on Earth, and romanticizing like this is very unscientific (To me it’s the same as “God created life”).
I was born in the UK and moved to the USA in '95. One of the reasons I do not wish to move back is because of this type of thing. They already have cameras everywhere, and can track you in your car from one end of the country to the other.
When I talk to people in the UK about this, they almost always shrug their shoulders and say that you shouldn't speed, although they do think that it's getting out of hand.
I'm not sure how the people will stop this, as it looks like the Labour party has gone nuts, and an election is years away.
I'm still proud to be British; I'm just glad I'm not living there right now.

Yes, without question. Ledger's Joker actually acts legitimately crazy, complete with the tongue thing. You can tell that he is rational in his own mind, and not trying to be funny, as Nickilson's Joker tried to be.
You really have to see it to understand what I mean. It really is the best villain I've seen.
I hate to say it, but I don't think competition would do it. I think regulation will be needed to fix the phone industry as a whole.
It's taken regulation in Europe and other countries to achieve fair and honest telecommunications; it's just a petty that America is unwilling to regulate an industry with such a stranglehold on everyone.
I remember back in the 90's the telecom companies managed to get billions from the government to upgrade their networks to speed up Internet access, but nothing happened with the money, and there has been no government checking if the money was spent on the Internet.
This isn't a rant about what you said, but a rant at the government I guess. We shouldn't be lagging in Internet access for any reason right now.
Don't forget Fusion power ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusion_power ) which might come online in less then 100 years. Less material is needed and the bi-product is water (okay, radioactive water). It's also safer.
I'm amazed that you can't read my whole post correctly. I'm not debating that fish exist that can breath in water and air, but that there is no proof that lungs and other organs can change so drastically without causing death, as the organ needs other changes too for it to be successful.
Someone with an ID at 1/4 million making fun of my ID; Wow, I'm so humbled by someone with such a low ID who was there from the beginning.
Cool, but you still haven't proven how a fish can grow lungs without compromising it's current breathing system. I can point to plenty of birds, but that doesn't mean that a flying squirrel can fly (it glides on flaps of skin, not the same as flying).
There is no fact behind the Theory of Evolution in relation to the creation of different species. It has been proven that genetic mutations exist, and that they cause illness and deformations, but not that they have the ability to create limbs, wings, lungs, etc. in perfect working order.
One thing that I am constantly amazed about is that people implant their own logic into Evolution; DNA does not have an agenda. It does not wake up one day and say "over the next 100 generations, I'm going to grow wings and fly!". No, it would create a flap that hinders the movement of the arms or legs and the creature would die, due to the "survival of the fittest" logic (see the Theory of Evolution).
Charles Darwin wrote that slight changes can occur which, if beneficial, will continue into the next generation. It is a HUGE leap from this to saying that "We all came from fish". It is not correct to look at fossils and assume that one came from another because they look similar. Without scientific proof (Please, show me how fish can grow lungs to breath only air, without compromising their current breathing system) all you have is a pretty chart.

There is technology now, that the worldwide industry could adopt, which enables content owners to track every legitimate digital download transaction, wholesale and retail.
This system is already in use here in Cannes by the MIDEM organisation and is called SIMRAN. Throughout this conference you will see contact details and information. I recommend you look at it. I should disclose that I'm one of their investors.
A friend of mine teaches BI and AP English at the local High school. She has a plan to talk to businesses about teaching the employees how to effectively communicate through email and other written forms, in a manner that will make them sound professional to clients and such. I think hiring a teacher part time (during the summer you might find a ton of them willing to earn a few extra bucks) might be the way you would want to go, as they are use to teaching, and are cheaper then the professional guys.
And no, she hasn't tried to test this on me, which is why my writing still sucks.
Shops and bars take the cost of stolen goods into account when they price stuff, as they know that glasses will be stolen, things will break, etc. Why can't the entertainment industry realize the same thing? It will be more profitable for them to sell digital music with or without DRM and cost it with "wastage" included and expect piracy, then to hinder it continuously with law suites and such.
I also realize that they should go after the people sharing 1,000's of music / movie files, just as they go after the thief who steals from stores (I know, piracy != theft).
I actually see the solid state drives replacing tape (if the cost goes down). They would be smaller then tape, and the life-span would be as good. You could technically have a SSD loader, working like the current tape loaders, and the only thing needed would be a good connector that can take several thousand insertions (like the SD connector). SSD would be more reliable then tape because of the reduced mechanical parts.
SSD's would have all the advantages of tape (portable, easy to load, etc) without the mechanical problems that tape has. Wow, I need to patent this now!
I agree. I might switch all my users to FF if I could manage all the settings from Active Directory (such as not adding plug ins, security settings, etc), but I'm not aware of any way to do this right now. And as you said, we already lock down the Internet, so why bother (we are also a MS shop, although I'm installing a Fedora server right now.)?
I know that this is a silly point to make, but all the Diebold machines were the "Diebold Accuvote optical scan" systems, which, and correct me if I'm wrong, leave a paper trail (fill out paper, run through machine, keep paper) so it *should* be easy to verify. They were not using the fully "ATM style" machines that everyone hates.
Just thought it worth mentioning, as I watch my Karma dive.
I think my main point is that organizations like the UN exist for reasons of international peace and negotiations. Yes, we might be a little better off without these organizations, but we would also have less bargaining chips and become more irrelevant to the rest of the world. I think that would hurt the country more then putting up with these.
It is also worth noting that we control the amount of service personal we send to help in the UN missions, and although we give command of these personal to other countries, we can pull them out at any time and we have control over what jobs they perform.
Another point worth noting is that the US only has 393 troops under the control of the UN; hardly a number that hinders the military, and doesn't cause a big problem with sovereignty.
Ron Paul is just using this to stir the public, and nothing more. If he actually had a good issue with this then I might vote for him, but he's just playing the normal political game and creating problems where none exist.
I have problems with Ron Paul wanting America out of the World Trade Organization, the North America Free Trade Agreement, and the United Nations, plus others. These organizations exist for very good reasons, and America has a huge say in most of them. I find that the main problem most people in the US have with them is the simple reason that they don't agree with the decisions those organizations make.
The best way to help in Darfur and Sudan is to be part of a UN force, and to be apart of any multinational embargoes that happen. I would even hope that they would lead this effort, but sometimes it's better to follow. America always gets in trouble when they try to do it by themselves without going through these organizations.
A company called "Powder Ject" has invented a syringe that doesn't use a needle. My brother worked on it for a few years, and even has his name on one of the patents. It's completely painless and only uses a tenth of the dosage a normal syringe would use.
I think Powder Ject has been purchased by another company, but I'm not sure which, and it was going to be released for this year's flu shot, although I haven't seen it yet.
The only reason I can think of, and have see companies do, is for VMotion fall over. Install an ESX server with just the DB running, and if it has problems, or you need to take down the physical box, you just move it to another one temporarily, without a break in transactions. Works well, but that is the only reason I can think of for doing it.

Netflix also has them, and on their Instant Watch list too.
I agree.

It looks like the plane Fireflash in one of the Thunderbird's shows. Okay, the engines are under the wings and not on the tail, but that's about it.
