  1. What hurricane Katrina can teach us about GTA::SA on GTA: San Andreas to be Re-Released Next Week · · Score: 1
Disclaimer: Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas is one of the rare games I actually purchased.

Many folks have pointed out the lack of logic in rating the game Adult Only following a third party modification that allows the player to see a naked girl. The girl, mind you, is virtual.

The truth is, the US is a country were no one is responsible, especially not the parents. They buy a game to their spoiled fat brats so that they will shut up once they are done with the gallon of ice cream. The game is here to keep the kids occupied in front of the almighty TV.

When people started looting the Walmarts in New Orleans, some were screaming "TV!TV!TV!" (see Newsweek of this week). It is no secret that the television is the almighty home appliance today in the US.

Look at the way the politicians were (and to a certain extent, still are) blaming each other for the mess related to the rescue efforts in the region. This is a country were it does not matter who is right or wrong, as long as the blame goes to someone else. See also the song "Blame Canada" from South Park the Movie.

    Just food for toughts.

Is there a tool I can use to bypass this firmware limitation so I can play Region 2 DVD on my Region 1 powerbook as many times as I want?

    Thanks.

SBC is doing the same thing that SCO is doing, only in reverse. Read on and you'll see what I mean.

There is a saying in the PR industry that goes something like this: "Every PR is good PR". The attacks that SCO has made against us has been one of the best demonstrations of this saying. Even though they showed a face of humanity that would make most criminals throw up, their stock went up substantialy and the officers made some serious cash.

Now look at what SBC is doing

IANAL, nevertheless I believe SBC doesn't stand a chance in court. They know it. Their General Counsel has huge balls but I think he knows that this is a great publicity. GREAT publicity.

At a time of software patents, monopolies held by incompetents and failing companies trying to kill Open Source, it sure feels good to see someone doing The Right Thing. Or at least it would seem.

After reading this story, I would switch to SBC if they covered my area ...

The campaign finance reform (CFR) is designed to ban the use of so called 'soft money'. Soft money encompasses unregulated donations to political parties from individuals, corporations or unions.

The ban on soft money introduces a heavy regulation as to what goes into a political party's purse and who the money comes from.

If you follow international news, you may know that next month there will be presidential elections in France. The debate is geared towards the financing of the RPR, the (republican) party of Jacques Chirac, the current president who is running for re-election.

The quote is not perfect, I didn't write down his exact words but the spirit is here. We are amateurs. We are what Rock'n Roll was before the major music distribution companies took over the business and squeezed everything we loved about Rock out of it. We are amateurs, we tour the country in buses, not planes. We do it for the love of the game. If we get good at it, money and chicks start coming, that's good :-) but that's not the goal.

My only problem with this is that Microsoft lacks the motivation to fix the hole if no one else knows what it is.

I don't generally defend MS but what you said is simply not true. If you compare MS to other companies, I think they have a descent response time and take ALL issues quite seriously. Yes their product sucks but as far as I know (and I read Bugtraq religiously), they are usually not too far behind.

The first one who replies to my post by mentionning Code Red doesn't know what he is talking about. MS released a patch for Code Red weeks before the worm spread like wild fire. Get your story straight.

Every now and then there is this discussion on bugtraq about full disclosure. It started last week by someone mentionning the cost of the worm and its variants. How eEye could have done better and stuff

Let me make myself clear: Full disclosure is mandatory!. Without it, we are all screwed.
