It will be a game-changer for burn and chemical injuries, but it wasn't thought for that: civilians will be "collateral damages" of the goal of the research. Eventually all military researches will be available for civilians, sure, but like penicillin, when they waited for the WWII to end (and sure it would have make a lot of difference for the work of the Red Cross). Why never throw a penny on cancer research too, though?
I think it is just plan stupid these researches must be triggered by military interest.

That said, there are still a few places non free software is useful. Games, accelerated video cards, Skype and so on. If you have to have those things, you might have to put up with some non free software. I've been happier without any of that. If I want to play games, I can get a console.
Right! And since I'm a scientist that use his accelerated video card for work, I have to buy a console.
Oh, there's always the alternative to use Windows, instead of being stucked with Linux.
Sure.
The craftmans always had a special and deep relationship with materials and tools they used.
There is a paper [http://tinyurl.com/3tyae9] suggesting that he was in some way able to exploit the different wood characteristics resulting from reduced solar activity during a Maunder minimum (without knowing what it was, anyway).
Besides the theory, it is sure that today there is not anything like an ancient "ARTisan".

By chance I put my hands on a couple of Compaq Armada M500, bought from eBay for only ~100â. The only drawback is battery life of original (and used!) standard batteries, while for few extra money you can buy more powerfull ones.
You can get as much as 1024x768 (there are models with 800x600 too) with Radeon Mobility, yes, run Linux (I tried Etch and Sidux), and browse with both PCMCIA and USB wifi devices.
You can watch smoothly DVD's and DivX movies.
And last thing: DosBox+Cannon Fodder is simply great on that machine!

Ehehe, looking at the Vista sale numbers, I guess that Redmordor guys have to thank those unauthorized sellers, 'cause they could be the most part of OS activation requests at the Windows Update site... that boooooooosts the $HUGE_NUMBER of Vista selled copies.
Smoke is bad. No way.
So quit smoking ASAP, but nevertheless keep your mind without filters.
I worked in one of the small biotechs that do research in the field, an I can say you that, yes, nicotine could be a good "weapon" for some targets.
But when you smoke, it's like to take a bullet's box and put it on fire, while using nicotine it's to take one single bullet, charge your sniper rifle... press your right mouse button and.. you know:D
Very naif, maybe, but I suggest to my father (an ol'penitent smoker since almost 30 years) to use once or two in a weak the nicotine patches, as a kind of prevention. At least, there are no serious side-effects with such a low dosage.
Anyway, nicotine is one of the many natural compounds that are active in our organism... Again, there are a kind of "receptors" (proteins) that have been characterized by nicotine itself (nicotinic receptors, see in the links).
Finally, as well as water, the "dose" is essential.
Well, I agree with your speculations, but, only partially.
Think about different structural forms that are possible to fly:
2 wings system: both bird and mammals, and reptiles (in in the past).
4-6 wings sistems: lot of insects.
Sea creatures need flattened, webbed appendages in order to swim, and those wouldn't be very good at fine manipulation. Yeah, but what about squid and octopus?
I think that many different forms are available to the evolution to satisfy the survival needs, overcoming the environment issues.
Finally (but this is a personal believing), the Roswell pics shown just a very simplicistic trick to represent aliens, that, OH WHAT A CHANCE!, had been always represented, them and their ships, as the common believings of that times... even
Chewbaccais more "alien"!!!
Too simple, for the big huge Universe.

Funny! Windows shows less bugs than Linux/Unix! I was always shure that Micro$osft is the best. No Office suite exploits... It should be secure, now! And, however, even kids knows that "A known bug is a dead bug"! (same kids knows that "Bugs enter from open Windows") What? WMF? Still unpatched since 3 months? But is a bug related to a feature coming from 1990, it's not a real bug... What? Is a *deadly* bug? But a company that depict his logo on my keyboard can't be wrong!
That's exactly my point.

And why exactly is the new 11" Air *not* a netbook? Sounds like we are mincing words here...
Its a damn netbook, and not even a full year after Steve claimed at the iPad keynote that netbooks have no use...
