The effects of alcohol on driving are overrrated. Absolute rubbish. Cite your facts for this statement. There are many, many studies and criminal inquires that disagree with you.
It's simple - Don't pirate music. It's not hard to understand. It's the law. There is no excuse. A poor attempt to minimalise my statement. There is no comparison. Pirating music doesn't kill and maim innocent people (despite what the MAFIAA thinks).
From the tone of your response, it would appear that you may well be one of the people who drink and drive and think that it's ok/wont get caught. I pity you when you do kill or maim someone as you will have to live with that.
How the hell is that insightful? If you have to get someone the hospital in a hurry, you call an ambulance. If you are trying to race some loved one to hospital with alcohol impaired driving skills, you are likely to kill them, yourself or probably some poor guy minding his own business.
It's simple - If you drink alcohol, you do _not_ drive. It's not hard to understand. It's the law. There is no excuse. Drunk drivers should be locked up. They should have their cars confiscated. You may think I'm overreacting. Wait until you nearly get killed by one.
Being over the prescribed limit also cancels your automotive and personal liability insurance. You wear all the costs of any damage or injuries in the event of a collision.
Let me repeat-
If you have been drinking, you do not drive. At all. Ever. For any reason. There is no excuse.
Have you looked in disk management? Often thost configurations don't assign a drive letter. If you can see the drive in DM then that is possibly all that is wrong.
To paraphrase one of my favourite posts that I have seen on/. (sorry don't have the link handy)
Universal: Give us $1 for each iPod you sell
Apple: We are disinclined to acquiesce to your request.
Univeral: Huh?
Apple: No.

TCP port 80 is all you get outgoing. Incoming, forget it. UDP, forget it. If you want to message, use the phone
You have the hit the nail right on the head with this line. At least as far as home users go. There is no reason for a user to have access to port 25 through their ISP if their ISP explicitly says "No Servers!" in the terms of use (which most do here). Alternatively, the ISP default should block all but 80, SSL and 110 with an option to go into your web account page (that most ISPs already have) and unblock other ports that comply with the aforementioned terms of use if you want to use them. Why not have a policy of DENY ALL, ALLOW 80, 110, 445 as the default, rather than the current ALLOW ANY, DENY NONE that most overseas ISPs seem to have.
Whilst many people here in Australia are quick to bag Optus, when Blaster hit, I didn't log a single packet because they blocked it all. That means that anyone with Optus was spared Blaster. Optus is the second largest ISP in Australia. If they can do it, why cant the rest?
Exactly! My workplace is only now just beginning to migrate 11,000 Windows NT 4/Office 97 desktops to XP/Office 2k3. For most corporate desktops, NT4 is fine. It's just a shame it isn't supported anymore. No chance of Vista happening in the next few years in many businesses that have just migrated (or are just about to) to Windows XP.
What a load of crap. Absolute drivel. The kids were with their mother in Tasmania. Anyone who knew anything about Steve and his family could never say such a thing. Their children are there passion. There was hardly a sentence out of Steve's mouth that didn't mention his children. They would do anything for them. If people would show have as much passion for their children as the Irwin's did, the world would be a far better place.
it seems that this stupidity is contagious. There's been a big issue in the media here recently, but this story pretty much covers it. In a nut shell, that old chestnut "think of the terrorists" has been dragged out. Now the management put out the signs, but the general consensus from people that should know is that this directive is neither binding, nor enforceable.
Absolutely.
Here in Australia, we get 18 minutes per hour of adverts on commercial FTA TV. As a long distance commuter, who doesn't have a lot of free time to watch tv at night, I record the weeks worth of shows that I actually want to watch. I record them on my PC, cut the adverts and rubbish out, re-encode to mpeg4 and watch on my notebook on the train to and from work. Even with all that, I still see the adverts while editing them out, so they can't even argue against that!
For the record, a 30 minute show here actually goes for 21-22 minutes without the adverts and a one hour show goes for 42 minutes. Interestingly, Mythbusters goes for 50 minutes, so if that ever gets onto commercial TV, they will have to either make it a 90 minute broadcast or cut 8 minutes worth of content out - probably the later. It is currently broadcast on SBS which is a government channel and only has adverts between shows at the moment.
Exactly!!! I cannot, for the life of me, understand why people leave their wireless on all the time. There aren't many APs on the f*cking train for godness sake! Then they have the audacity to complain about battery life. You only need to enable wireless _when_ you want to use it! Easy if you are running XP Pro - Open network connections, drag wireless icon to desktop. Say yes when it asks to create a shortcut. Now you can right click and enable/disable you wireless in an instant. Almost as easy in Fedora Core. I can post a short shell script if anyone wants it. Great for the IBM laptops without a physical button.
And with a few deft keystrokes on Google, we find that Sheyenne does some C programming and kernel hacking and uses NetBSD and has tried FreeBSD and linux on an IBM Thinkpad T22 Laptop. She is an active poster *BSD forums. In short, the ideal candidate for further examination as a possible dissedent as she have activist tendancies and isn't using MS Windows for the masses.
"current equipment does not meet all the technology standards set by the industry."
I wonder if this means
"The equipment doesn't have the DRM and copy protection we require."
The one place where they could use DRM for a true user pays arrangement - i.e. Pay per screening etc - and no mention at all of this.
I'm sure there are probably other "technical issues" holding them up, but DRM would be the most obvious. I'm sure that I read a while back that copy protection has already been addressed in the form of encrypted hard disks for distribution in the UK.
if the road is dry, the stop time will be much shorter if the wheels lock and you skid.
This is absolute nonsense. It is a total myth. A skidding wheel actually takes longer to stop as the wheel(s) has lost grip on the surface that it is supposed to be adhered to. A rotating wheel is still gripping the surface and will slow you faster.A skidding wheel or wheels is also an invitation to lose control of your vehicle. If you do have to steer you cannot unless you remove your foot from the brake and reapply it.
When I did the advanced motorcycle training years back, they taught us that the quickest and safest way to stop was through progressive braking - that is a steady application of the brakes - which can yield up to 70% more stopping power than slamming on the brakes and skidding. Proper application, i.e. not locking wheels, also allows for additional weight transfer to the front wheels, further enhancing your stopping power. Their theory is absolutely correct too, as the practice exercises we did showed and the fact that I am still alive and in one piece also shows. If I had done the whole skidding thing, I would be dead or serious injured.
And you would most likely be correct. A link posted on/. a few days ago had AnandTech testing two virtually identical ASUS notebooks - one with the new CoreDuo cpu. Battery time was tested and came out about 15% longer than the Pentium M for their business applications test suite.
Yes my employer uses Thinkpad T series laptops now. Couldn't be happier with the reliability. Had a T30 (sucky battery life though), got a T41 now. Maybe we just got a bad batch of Acers, that was a few years ago They were 524 and 529 travelmates. Though I stand by my comments about the BenQ. That one is only 18 months old and has almost spent more time in being repaired than being used.
I think a good comparison with the high end model can be made with the 8200:
You cannot compare an Acer laptop with an Apple one. Acer laptops are absolute garbage. You can take your $400 saving and put it aside for buying new motherboards for your Acer when the warranty expires. The Acer Travelmate I had went back three times, my boss sent his back at least three times. The guy across from me sent his back at least twice that I know of and my mate has sent his BenQ - Acer consumer brand name - back 5 times now. I will never, ever buy an Acer laptop.
The acer has a faster CPU and has a better camera
The apple is about a pound lighter, remote control, and some good apps.
-and the Apple will keep working for more than a few months.
Although this story is a dupe, neither post actually cited the source of its information (other than "Mr Ruddock said..blah blah"). The stories are based on a discussion paper titled "Fair Use and Other Copyright Exceptions, An examination of fair use, fair dealing and other exceptions
in the Digital Age,Issues Paper", published out by the Attorney General's Department in May 2005.
That is so true. The best that America produced a couple seasons ago. It is also why the I seem to be watching more and more of SBS and ABC 1 and 2. At least 80% of what I capture for later viewing is off these channels. There's just a couple of fishing shows on Saturday that get recorded off the commercial channels and I do cut these adverts out as they are annoying and repetitive.
As also posted by others, no one watches Joey.
"then there is a big risk the quality of the shows will go down "
Is it really possible for the quality of commercial prime time TV in Australia to sink lower?
