With the advances in shape charge technology, we could offset the cost of 'nukeing the moon by incorporating the proper chemicals (for color), along with properly prepared shaped charges. We could then sell Micky Ds on a huge yellow M shaped cloud arising from the western terminator, with an equally impressive red ball from Coca Cola on the Eastern terminator.
As I see it there are a lot of things that could make this unstable. Precipitation in any quantity would attenuate the signal, bugs, birds or dust likewise. Certain health risks if exposed to any high level of coherent light exist. A mirror placed in the path would have interesting effects as well as a crystal.
Well, another Katz piece that includes no real meat, just his usual skewed view. Not even a link to some facts, although Katz manufactures plenty of his own "facts".

RANT Well, I only have 2K rounds built for the.44 Mag, but I have 50# of powder, about 10K JHP 240 grainers, several thousand Large Pistol Primers. 3 wheelguns and 4 long guns to burn them with. I can kill anything on earth with one of those placed properly. Defense and meat production in one.
When we hear the chatter of those AK's and other ammo wasters, we hunker down and let them get in easy range and the wife I and I blow these cool 1/2" holes through anyone attempting to appropriate our supplies. Gotta love how those.44 JHPs tear up tissue.
Not much use against armor or in a pitched battle, but as we learned in The Nam the one with the most firepower does not necessarily win the battle or the war. Guerilla tactics will see me through any assault on our secluded home. Hopefully it won't be necessary. Looters may or may not hear the shot. They sure as hell won't know where it came from. We have snow so we will be dressed in white.
Just think of it... 1 Looter would feed the cats for a long time.
This is probably redundant, but I must congratulate Justin on being able to fess up to a mistake. So very many people would put some english on it to make it seem as if it was not their mistake.
It takes courage to act with honor and honesty when you do a boo boo.
I am very unimpressed with 99.99% of these "Roblimo" inspired posts.
He has aquired too much power too fast and it has reduced the viability of this once useful resource.
In particular this _entire_ issue is certainly not entirely devoted to Linux, and definitely NOT about current the install base of Linux.
In case anyone cares I have used Linux since 94 and have regularly read/. since the very beginning. One of the first thousand accounts, in fact.
I just painted the roof of my barn with a penguin and "Linux Rox". This should be a feature on slashdot as my barn is directly under both a north south and an east west flight corridor. meaning lots of people can see it while traveling.
The story:
Local Geek paints alternate OS advertiseing on barn.
Micro$oft claims this is proof that there truly is competition in the OS market.
The owner of the barn refused to answer questions regarding the misuse of live penguins for OS research or Questions about decapitated chickens.
Feathers and blood were observed in the mans yard.
It would make as much sense as most of the posts from the limo d00d.
This "small" advance in technology is, to me, fairly parrallel to that discovery of the '50s on how electrons could be passed in a controlled manner across a PN junction. That little piece of information has led to the developement of electronics without vacumn tubes and eventually to the computer system(s) you are using to read this possibly off topic post.
I am fairly certain that not many folks had a vision of where that would lead in ~50 years.
I dislike spam and I dislike idiots posting idiotic crap on this forum. I put up with it in order to glean the quality that does cross this site on a regular basis. For some reason I skim almost all of a thread that I am interested in. The problem I have is that/. quality is going downhill as the popularity has gone uphill. I think this is a natural law or something. I have used/. since the very early days before the 200+ posts to a thread and pre scoreing days.
Much like my favorite fishing hole and hunting spot, the very reason it _WAS_ so good has been the cause of its decline in appeal to me. This leads to the trash, noise and crowding that the average person seems to leave in their wake upon discovery of some hidden jewel and the rush to exploit it. Add in the corporatization of my beloved internet and all that that implies and the whole damn thing just pisses me off. Much like idiot neighbors in real life since you can't kill them or otherwise get rid of them, you just need to find a way to deal with it yourself. Don't expect whatever authority figure you see as "in charge" to fix it. They can't.
Troll is a fishing term and if you respond to a troll they win, they "caught" you. If, however, you see the troll for what it is and dutifully ignore it you win because the bait was recognized as what is was.
Duh, more than I expected to rant about. There it is.
A nice effort and it may prove useful to some. It seems that there are so many different hardware combinations that "one for all" installer disk is not a viable option anymore.
Since I do not use Red Hat this may be a lame-o question...
Why no ftp install option for Red Hat? Yeah I know CDs are much easier, but...
Seems like this was one reason I went with Debian. Above and beyond the "other" reasons. No Flamewar, Please!
I always wanted to put up a custom kernel burner box. This was an idea from the (386SX 4 meg) overnight compile days which has no merit in this day of huge horsepower on the average box.
FezBox is a nice idea for those who like using those kind of toyZ.
Just reading about this kind of bandwidth makes me jealous.
I am awaiting the arrival of 2way low orbit satellite links.
I would just about kill to have even a stable 28.8 capable telco line. But I like living out in the boonies and the infrastructure just does not exist.
Be happy for what you have.
I am happy I don't have to worry about carrying a hogleg so I don't get mugged in some rat infested city.
Looks like a really nice concept (the player). And I applaude his efforts,I may build something similar one day. I have enough old 'puters lying about the place.

Yeah, Network "Solutions" is the lamest company as far as customer service is concerned. I own about 6 domains and it is always a nightmare hopeing they get it right, update on time, etc. As long as they have the monopoly on this it is a BAD THING (tm). Its like some new phone company offering me "improved" service over the US Worst lines I have. Duh. Haven't seen your trucks putting new cables in so how is it "better"??
They are just reselling what already exists. I see no true advantage to the consumer here.
Yeah, I agree with a lot of the Katz tirade. I also agree about the Billy Bashing and the attitude comment, but if you`re a Billionaire dwarf you gotta take it as it comes.

Great oaks grow from tiny acorns. Rockslides start with a single pebble. Avalanches begin as tiny snowflakes. It feels good to see this happening. Another facet of that/. effect. I, personally like to build my own machines, meaning no preinstalled junk. Debian bootdisk and a NIC and in a reasonable time I have a real OS with most needed apps at virtually no cost. No silly service packs released well after the whole world knows about a weakness.

Nice piece of fluff for Linux.

Sorry if this comes off as "dense as concrete", but when I see OSS I think Open Source Software.
A bit tough to steal that which is given away free.
Piracy is a Bad Term for the copying of software. That is unless you weild a cutlass and wear an eye patch with a parrot on your shoulder.

woohoo

But.. I LIKE the GPL and I believe it to be the "lesser evil".
Ultimately it is up to the author of the code. And we must respect their licensing terms even if it is the type M$ chooses to distribute under.
