If everyone consistently adhered to morals PERIOD, none of those would happen. Christianity is not the solution to everything and it tries too hard to do just that. At least, PEOPLE try too hard to make it that. They read into it things that just aren't there. Any kind of morality regarding sex being one of them.
I was born a Christian and I underwent all of the ceremonies up to and including confirmation, so I know what I'm talking about. All Christianity is is a set of guidelines for living one's life.
These guidelines constitute a moral code but nowhere in that code does it say that sex is bad and should be avoided. As Page Smith said, "The 7th commandment states 'Thou shalt not commit adultery.' The 7th commandment does not say 'Thou shalt not commit fornication,' which is sexual relationships between unmarried men and women." The 7th commandment implies respect of others, not a moral lesson that sex is bad.
Christianity teaches a respect and tolerance of fellow man and his beliefs, and respect for life. That's why all of those problems would go away if people faithfully followed Christianity. That's why they would go away if everyone followed any intelligent moral code based upon respect.
I'm not advocating Christianity over any other religion or belief system. I'm not currently a Christian by current opinion though I still share the same beliefs of respect. Over-zealous Christians piss me off because of this. Kind of the same situation with over-zealous linux 'advocates'. They ruin the perception for outsiders.
Some of those fertility cults you mention were destroyed by invading armies. The invaders then either wiped out or assimilated the conquered simply because they didn't share the same beliefs(and didn't respect them).
So in closing, I'd like you to answer some questions. Why are out of wedlock pregnancies bad? Why is sexual content evil? Besides providing unfounded and baseless religous sentiment can you provide me with any reason(s) why we should shield our children from these things as if they were the most terrible things ever?
I would put to you that the way we treat fellow men and teach our children to continue treating them this way is worse. Curbing that trend involves exposing everyone to these things, not shielding kids from them. Knowledge and wisdom come from experience, not from being not from being shacked up and protected.

How is this supposed to compile into faster native code than java application compiled into native code?
That's not really the point. The point is [see above]. And java is poorly designed in this respect. I would say the Tao group's VP is much more intelligently designed as well(Inferno is another good example of good design).

I believe it would be the compiler itself that is the bloat. I don't think past compilers did alot of optimization the way modern ones do. I believe modern optimization algorithms have to keep large chunks of the code in memory while it's compiling and seek out optimizations by sifting through the RAM contents for fast execution. In the past, this would have been absolutely out of the question because RAM was scarce and you couldn't use it up like that. Nowadays... well we know things have changed, so the all these new algorithms, optimizations, etc have created the bloat the previous poster was referring to.
Just my thoughts...:-)

Just imagine a small company with all its vital financial data housed on some remote M$ server
OTOH, this could turn out VERY well. All vital data stored on MS servers, which have a buggy and insecure track record. This means that all security and relibility of the servers now goes to Microsoft... consequently, so does all the blame and bad press if something goes wrong. Microsoft can secure it pretty well, but holding that kind of sensitive info on their servers is a really juicy target for crackers who like showing off their ski11z.
Seeing the past history of exploits for NT and such, you can be sure to expect at least a few cracks will succeed and I think by then it will be quite apparent that this is NOT a good idea. People will then realize the crap that MS has been feeding them for the marketing hype it really is and (hopefully) be wiser for it and switch over to something with known relibility.
A very good thing indeed... (rubbing chin and dreaming of the possibilities...)

So, he gets suspended for disrupting an extracuriccular, non academic activity outside of shcool hours?
Excellent point! It's not really a school activity. More of an event, and totally outside of school and non-academic. I don't think the administration has a leg to stand on. "We suspended him because... uhhh... well, we were embarassed and we were acting like selfish preschoolers," the administration responded sheepishly.:-)

Actually, I think seeing the guy walk away and embarass all the staff and the other contenders would have been a HELL of alot more entertaining than the rest of the "ceremonies" (read: boring stuff).:-)
The closest equivalent I can think of is comitting yourself to play a gig at a party, then showing up to the party and telling the host that you're not going to play the for them after all.
Based on what I said above, I think it would be like showing up to your gig and doing stand up comedy instead. Still entertaining, but not what you bought your ticket for.
I do agree that the suspension was the expected thing for the administration to do. It's certainly getting attention. A hundred thousand/.'ers is certainly quite a bit I think.:-)

I completely agree with just about everything you said. I have many of the same view points as you do and I've seen and experienced alot of the same. Why? Because I was new at my school and one of the more popular guys decided he didn't like me. What kind of bull is that?
But these tribulations made us into the people we are and I'm saddened everytime I think back on it. Not because I feel sorry for myself, but because it reflects on our culture, our society and humanity as a whole.

They have the right to all those I'd wager. The problem is that teenagers have no influence to challenge the authorities that are suppressing them. They have little money so they can't take their oppressors to court. Their parents are more likely to listen to the school "authorities" than their "misbehaving kid". And the only reason random searches, drug-testing and metal detectors are allowed are because the parents feel it's ok for the "protection" of their children.
It's stupid, it's a violation of rights, but(begin sarcasm) it's ok just this once. Let's all just look the other way because the intentions are good. (end sarcasm) All that says to me is 'hypocrites'.

I suggest you come to terms with the fact that your son has his own life to lead and own decisions to make and that he'll do what he wants whether you like it or not.
That having been said, I would pay attention to what he's trying to say, not how he's saying it. Far too many noble people in our past have been punished or killed because everyone was too busy disapproving not of what they were saying, but how they were saying it. It makes me truly sad.

There are constraining factors on p2p, but these will actually fade away as more people get broadband.
I think it's also more than that. These reports say that it's too slow, it's too hard it's too -insert problem-, but they don't realize that the architecture, and it's implementation are still immature and under heavy development. In the end, the implementation is what makes the the architecture viable and considering current p2p implentations are still in the 0.x release phases(freenet, mojonation, etc.), I think it's a little premature to declare them dead.
