I totally agree with this statement.. Those are great examples of pretty legendary game franchises of this type that should easily be able to be referenced here.
THANK YOU!!! I totally agree. I am not a HUGE Micro$oft fan, but like most because of business usage I use Windows.
They have had the corporate, small buisness, and workstation vote for years now. While Apple is just now starting to become more mainstream
and linux workstations are starting to mature.. They're really no virii for them BECAUSE THEY'RE NEW.
Mark my words, Whatever OS dominates there will be virii and spyware for.
ALL OS's have holes and security flaws, and all need pro-active work to keep them secure. This is both on a network and software level.
You can't just install a program and have it fix all your OS's woes. At least not yet.
Real Genius anyone?
'Ick' Ikagami: It worked! Now if we can just keep it from exploding!
Kent: Explo-?
Chris Knight: Hey Ick, you were just kidding about exploding, right? Ick? It's a joke, right?
I actually LOVED this game, and would welcome a movie. I thought it was a great and interesting take on the world, and strangely original. The game story had much more depth than similar stories or movies of today.. Say Hostle or the Saw Series! Not to mention it had a nice ending, wrapping everything nice and neatly up.
As for the "To Be" Oz movies.. I would like to see something similar but not as Dark. Something a little more sombre, When I was a child I remember loving the books, and reading them not only for fun happy times but because some of the stories were a little dark and scared me. They captured my imagination, and I believe the original stories STILL have the potential to do so as an Adult.
I do like what I see coming from Sci-Fi http://www.scifi.com/tinman/.. This seems like a great concept, something along these lines would be nice.. But a little closer to the actual story rather than an interpretation would be nice.
I thought the same thing too, until I started to hear what friends are saying and did some research. Seems Wii's are still hard to purchase, because of the demand for them. A friend passed me this URL to check out the current Next-Gen War stats.

This is funny.. Once again real life is getting dangerously close to Sci-Fi..:-) If anyone watches Stargate SG-1 they'll know what I am talking about.. But for those who dont here is a link..

This is already being done on some level with our game Consoles. XBOX/XBOX 360 anyone!? DRM is utilized in these machines to only allow signed/approved applications to run on the hardware supplied. (Including size/structure of Hard Drive, Video Card, NIC etc) Verry much like the licensing of Windows based on Hardware Serialization. These Issues are alive today..
But lets focus more on the consoles as their closer to the new problem. What has been the workarround? Out of the box an xbox cannot use anything but Microsoft Content, Games, Downloads from Xbox Live! etc. So Chips have been created to sidestep this detection. So other apps and uses can be done.. Linux may be installed, different boot loaders, Media Check is taken out of the loop etc. The result allowing us to use the hardware we purchased for what we want too.
Now I know this isn't exactly the same, but it is Similar. Lets be honest, with the reply that we see from all these techies on this one topic from slashdot about the new DRM implimentation. How long do you think it would be until we came out with some bandaid for this new problem. I do know that reverse engineering these chips would be hard, but not impossible.
I, by all means am NOT saying we shouldn't fight this. However I do believe there are other ways than just vocalizing our concerns. For every attempt like this there has been an overwhelming response to counteract it. I have faith in the crackers/Hackers. Just remember, something this big will not only attract action from all the existing Crackers/Hackers, but most likely with make many legitimate Engineers/Technicians cross that line to solve this problem (many are balancing on the edge as it is).
To paraphrase the Fight Club quote: Look, the people you are after are the people you depend on. We code your apps, we build your machines. We connect your networks, we keep your systems up. Do not... MESS with us.
Anyone ever play the Rockstar Game based on the movie "The Warriors" Whats different? I would be interested to see if that game was banned..
The Warriors is based on the movie which features a bunch of rival gangs the subject of which "The Warriors" are trying to make a name for themselves.. by committing crimes, avoiding/attacking police, and spray painting(tagging/bombing) their logo all over the city..
Sounds like the same sort of game. I actually liked it.. and by no means ever had the desire to attack police or even pick up a spray can.
Now... to throw yet aNOTHER wrench in the works..
This is all well an good to track internet usage and IP's to check collections.. But the major thing that the RIAA will NEVER catch...
is the wonderful old Sneaker-net..:-)
Sure people (by the letter of the law) are still as at fault... but how is it going to be tracked..
Or is the RIAA going to muscle in and start getting sleeper apps to monitor all traffic on a machine or maybe just those pertaining to digital music..
Mark my words..
If it hasn't already been attempted in some form (The Sony rootkit) then it will in the future..

My Point.. Now why should it be different for recorded material? Intellectual Property? The person who broadcast/uploaded the material should be the one to blame.. NOT the end user.
It's like punishing someone for buying an item from a Flea Market.. But the item was originally stolen.. How is the end user supposed to know...
(Presumably if the item is packaged well etc, and not obviously stolen)

This is Interesting...
If someone were to steal information or sensitive Documents from an agency or the Government and then broadcast them over some medium.. Say Radio, TV or the Internet..
Who would be arrested/Fined?
The person who listened, watched, and/or Downloaded it?
Or the Person who put it there?
I think its all to convenient for the RIAA to attack the end user? Especially when a large number of them probably think that P2P progs out there that traffic this music are probably as Legal as say iTunes.
IMHO it seems to me that the RIAA is making example of these people, in an act of desperation to scare off savvy users.
The result however is to make the more savvy users/hackers more devious and figure out other ways arround the security methods.. and to saturate the internet with other P2P programs, and other hacks that are all to easy for everyday users to come across when searching the interenet..
So this is more than self defeating.. and pretty destructive to those peoples lives who are unlucky enough to get caught/tapped by the RIAA...

I think the government should regulate CPU cycles, thus having more overall effect on power-grid usage :-P

Ever tried to just check the status of an outage with your high-speed internet Connection?
/etc/resolv.conf ......
Please goto start... Then Click Settings.. Then Click control pannel..
(What you type)
ifconfig -a; more
Most people don't know anything but windows. Why would a police agency be any different.
