"Other Cabinet papers showed Harold Wilson was warned in 1975 that Britain's economy faced 'possible wholesale domestic liquidation.'"

    ...possible wholesale domestic vaporization?

Furthermore, my friends and I play a lot of pen-and-paper role-playing games set in Europe (Call of Cthulhu mainly) and they always accuse me of a "lack of realism" in the manner in which my characters behave. My response to said friends? "They're British. They boil their meat. They drink warm beer. I don't have to explain their unusual behavior; just play the damn game."

I can now add: "They'd let their entire population be atomized in order to wipe out the 'hippie menace.'"

"The Treasury Department says that cyber crime has now outgrown illegal drug sales in annual proceeds, netting an estimated $105 billion in 2004, the report said."

Perhaps dollarwise, yes. Dangerwise, no. I don't think any Federal agents ever had to face off with any Columbian coderunners in some remote jungle on the ass end of the world. Illegal drugs aren't going to fall off the top of the charts anytime soon just because some douche in the Treasury Department says so.

Furthermore, nine times out of ten, companies and individuals who fall for scams or suffer identity theft had it coming for total lack of judgement in how they used their personal information online or how high of a priority properly implementing security measures were for them.

I prefer them when I have the time. I only wish I had something along the lines of a DAT recorder to take with me. However, the fact remains the few of the bands that I listen to are worthy of such attention. I'm very picky.

Oh it does. You spoke for me well. I just decided one day to get used to it because I hate having to fumble around with CDs. I also got satellite radio for my car...which is also broadcast as compressed audio. That seems to be the theme of today's world--sacrificing quality for quantity and convenience.

No, but to reinforce my previous statement, it doesn't matter with the poor quality music being produced today either.

If bands starting churning out some decent music for a change, we wouldn't have to worry about hearing loss...it has NOTHING to do with the volume levels. Last time I checked, too much crap in the ear caused hearing loss just as readily has high decibel levels.

The next thing they'll be telling us is that it's better to have $1000.00 than $100.00, vehicles with better gas mileage will save money, doctors make more money than fry cooks, and Linux is better than Windows.
