There is never, under ANY circumstances a justifiable use of a "goto". Even writing the word in this message was difficult for me.

Don't get me wrong, I think the scumbags who did this should be lined up against a wall and shot.
I also think that giving computers away to needy people is admirable.
But don't you think the folks at FreeGeek doing sort of a disservice to those they give computers to? Linux is not the easiest to learn, and once it is learned the skills are only applicable to less than 5 percent of all computers.
If I were a poor person scraping to get by, one of these computers may just convince me that computers are not for me at all.
I'm sure the average person in Iceland isn't any smarter than the average american (Kansas excluded)
You hit the nail right on the head there. I was wondering what the numbers are if you exclude the south and midwest. I'm sure the east/west coast alone would beat Iceland.
I'm sure they will be using these Gnutella supercomputers in some way to oppress their own people.
Our military may not be able to use this technology, but you know damn well there will be some chinese dissidents with car batteries attached to their nuts thanks to these folks.
This information would be very useful for investors. If I had previous knowledge about last year's hurricane season I would have bought up the refineries and made a killing.
Google is pushing the Internet OS for this very reason. That is, centralized control of people's computers. I believe they are developing this specifically for the chinese. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the chinese are funding Google's efforts.
With no documents stored locally, what chinese dissident will be able to print out newsletters? Or petitions? Or flyers for protests?
With centralized control of everyone's data, the chinese government officials will easily be able to search all citizens' hard drives. In fact, they will probably use Google desktop to do it!
What will Google think of next for the oppressive chinese government? How about a USB powered torture device. Plug one end into the computer, and the other end to your nuts. Then they don't have to connect a car battery to your nuts, they can shock you remotely. We'll call it the GBagger. How about it Larry and Sergei?
You're right. The Disability Policy Consortium have a strong lobby in Washington. They probably backed up a truck of cash to the front of his building and started shoveling bills into his office.
Who knew that using OpenOffice is like parking in a handicapped spot?
I agree with this statement completely. What MS did wrong was they insisted that IE be the only browser installed, and they used their monopoly powers to bully around the computer retailers. Look at what all of those lawsuits accomplished. It was a huge waste of time and money.
If the manufacturer forces him to use product A only with product B, the customer cannot make this decision.
Are you saying that every product must be compatible with every other product? Apple sells software (product A) that runs only on their OS (product B). Do you have a problem with that? Or should Apple be forced to write each of their applications in every OS? If Craftsman starts selling only phillips head screwdrivers, would this violate your rule?
I could see your point if there was a monopoly involved here. Apple does not have a monopoly on music. In fact, they don't even have a monopoly on music players!
This is just like France to try to limit what a business can do. If Apple wants to sell music that only plays on their player, that is okay. If it upsets consumers, they will buy their music from somewhere else. This is how business is supposed to work, right? Next thing you know they will insist that Apple not fire any employees under 26 who have worked there more than a year blah blah blah.
On the other hand, I'm sure Linus never uses ANYTHING that contains any MS code. He probably shuts his eyes and runs screaming out of the room if someone turns on MSNBC.
Are you so confident of your math that you would try a live experiment? I know 1+1=2, but I'm not about to bet my sack on it!
Also, I think attaching the jumper cables is a bit painful too. Besides, who are we to argue with chinese government officials. I am sure they are more versed in the latest methods of torture than we are.
Google then:
Google now(stock price near 500):
THAAD is not a pun.

Each of their citizens will get a free tracking device implanted inside them. What a great country!!
It's simple: Dvorack is the voice of this generation of technologists.
Google or Yahoo?
Does the pope wear a funny hat?

Why didn't Dvorvack make the list?

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Write down Cassius Clay when sending me money!
If you dont know, I am not going to tell you.

If France is doing it, it is probably the wrong thing to do.
Should we instead help the Chinese government oppress their people like Google and Yahoo?
Whenever I run out of ideas, I fire up Google and do a few searches to brainstorm. Maybe this would work for these guys?
