It's not just because you are getting older. I started with Atari 400 --> C64. Things were "better" because we were participating in this grand adventure together...Sailing through uncharted waters, devouring magazines to find the latest trick we could do with these amazing computers...It was the modern day equivalent (perhaps the last?) of being a pioneer exploring the vast untamed wilderness. Today, the PC/Mac does everything for you. Others have imagined what can be done and implemented it on your behalf. In the old days, we imagined and implemented ourselves. It was within reach to us.

Now, those of us who look back with nostalgia are often doing so from an office cubicle where we have no time to explore, only time to do. We tamed our wilderness, built our homestead and settled in.

    Nahhh...ignore that...you're just getting older. ;-)

  5. No, I Invented the Internet on U.S. Calls For Public Meeting on ICANN Replacement · · Score: 1

All this back and forth about who is responsible for the Internet is really irrelevant now, isn't it? The fact is, there is a system in place, and the US govt is seeking comments on how well that system is working (or not). The notice that the article refers to assumes that ICANN's contract will be renewed. The hearing is not going to impact whether the contract is renewed. It may impact some of the terms of the renewal. So, instead of trying to prove who pwns the Internet, focus on what the current "administration" needs to do to foster continued development/proliferation, not on who the "administration" should be.

I'm no scientist, but I seem to recall that the whole "cool" thing about Hydrogen fuel was that the by-product is water. So, how exactly is our environment going to benefit by having rivers of condensation running down the sides of every interstate, highway and sidestreet in the country, collecting all of the other vehicle drippings, roadkill, trash, etc to trickle off into newly formed standing pools of water festering with bacteria, mosquitos, diseases, etc?

Not so sure if this has been thought through completely, even aside from all the "so where do you get the hydrogen" questions.

They'll bundle it with their own "Office" suite, like a branded version of OpenOffice, and bing-bang you have an open source PC that can play nicely with the market dominant MS world.

If, of course, this happens. :)

The challenge will be end user support. Must have a strong support structure, or it won't fly. Typical users won't know how to post a question to usenet, and will have no patience for email support. The biggest challenge to the changes that are possible today is end-user paradigm, not technolgy.
