Thanks for the fix. I don't have vista and I believe your right.

I believe most of the poll voters are running vista x64.
Is Vista x32 almost as large as a x64 install (winsxs still as big?)?
It's obnoxious that XP's winsucks is less than 30MB and Vista's is multiple Gigs. XP doesn't have a problem with DLL hell, I guess it has to do with the.net framework.
Thinking of the children's well being, or ThInking of the children...lol.
I wonder what Cowboy 'Oneal (or whoever wrote the dept. phrase on this article) meant.
Hitach has released a 500GB laptop HD that uses 3 platters, many months ago!
Recently Hitachi has released a 9.5mm thickness 500GB notebook HD that uses 2 platters! I don't think its out to market yet, but tomshardware has already reviewed it!

Seagate is late to the game!
When I was going to college, when my friends had an expensive book that I needed, I would ask to borrow it for a couple of days. In that time, I would scan all the pages onto my laptop. Its worth 10 hours of work for a free $100 dollar textbook if you ask me. I then distributed copies to everyone that wanted it.
I thought I read somewhere that Mr.Gates is rather aggressive and can be hard on employees. But maybe not on Mr. Ballmer because they are best friends:)
AaHa! Genius! Except, how will Dell make money off the non-existent bundled trialware?
I wish Dell would supply Linux for $50 bucks off the price, with bundled trialware installed so they could make a buck and stick with it.
All those Excursions, Suburbans, Escalades(SCSI controller cards), Tahoes, etc are irritating to be around from inside a '99 Honda Civic. Especially when I have a bumper/trunk sticker that reads:"Draft SUV driver first"! Surprisingly only one SUV driver has tailed me for a bit, and one other that honked at me while passing, its not too bad. Really, its surprising that I'm not being side swiped on a regular basis!
You don't understand pokerdad, WinXP from win9x is a completely different architecture, vast improvements in security, etc.. So, it would make sense that the hardware requirements for XP would be a lot higher than win9x, and they would be worth it.
However, moving from One NT system to another, say WIN2k to XP, there isn't a huge increase in memory usage (it is quite significant but not super huge).
From my own testing, a clean XP SP2 install uses 100-140MB(commit charge) of RAM when loaded with just the default software and default full fledged GUI, after a fresh reboot.
A clean install of Vista, fresh restart, without Aero GUI service running, it uses a Commit Charge of 350MB! 400MB if the Aero service is running! If effing ridiculous! Its an extravagant increase in memory usage.
Microsoft created that capability only with Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate. Windows Vista Home Basic and Windows Vista Home Premium are unable to downgrade to Windows XP.
So, basically this downgrade option will not be available with x86 machines that default to coming with Vista home Premium, and the other versions of Vista besides Business, and Ultimate. Hmmm. Seems like a large chunk of Dell laptops default to Vista; Home Premium

Am I right?
No, win 2000 isn't as stable as XP imo. Vista is as stable as XP and vice versa, but with a lot more bloat. I was in the 'boat', saying that XP is bloated compared to win2k, but it's worth it (System restore, Automatic Updates, fast user switching, good stuff).
Back in the day, I was thrilled at windows 2000 because of the move to the Windows NT architecture (goodbye to 'illegal operations'!). Now that we have a nice stable Windows NT platform (XP), why move to something with more bloat with little return other than dx10, Superfetch, winFX API, and UAC (Everything else that matters can be added to XP)?
Good thing they aren't doing the Peltier route! They'd be wasting their time.
Err I have a 1.86GHZ Pentium M Dothan Dell d610 laptop, running XP pro, thank you very much.

How in the world did you fit Vista in a 4GB space? Usually clean installs are 6GB+!
How the hell does one use the three sea shells anyway? There should be a Wikipedia page on the concept.

If you have any zits or rashes on your skin, be sure to use your time wisely and spray windex on the sore to aid in quick healing.

No, 2014. That is when the XP patches from Microsoft will end. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_xp -- under "support lifecycle"
