Best advice i could give you is to just give it a real, unbiased chance. Cannot guarantee you will love/hate it, but a lot of the metro hate really is being completely overblown.

It shows how completely hyperbolic these "adults" are when they claim that windows 8 is UNUSABLE. The fact is they are extremely anal retentive and have yet to give windows 8 a real unbiased chance.

The other huge thing waiting to be noticed is that there are Linux distros out there (e.g. LinuxMint) that take less "getting used to" for a WinXp user than Win8. The only thing saving MSFT is that Linux has no advertising budget. And we'd never agree on which distro to recommend.

The other huge thing waiting to be noticed is that there is not very much "to get used to" going from winxp to windows 8 that all these people that have never used windows 8 seem to think exist, other then a different Start Menu interface. the other parts of the OS are about 99% the same as 98/xp/vista/7 just a few things reworded and some graphic updates. windows explorer is still there, control panel, device manager, blah blah everything is there, and it's even in the SAME place. it's just that now it works better, and faster than winxp. Though you would have to actually use it to know this, and not on 12 year old hardware.

you can access control panel in windows 8 faster than you ever could in any version of windows. Move mouse curson to bottom left corner, and instead of left clicking, RIGHT CLICK. You will be treated to a nice context menu, of witch one of the many option is "control panel". Also the my computer icon has been replaced with the new windows explorer icon. If you click the windows explore icon you get the EXACT same window as if you had opened "my computer". You just have to learn to not be a giant man baby about windows changing things around to notice.
