Slashdot died when people started rambling on about 'tech news' whatever the heck that even is.
Slashdot used to be news for Nerds. Not for IT folk and 'tech enthusiasts' and other mainstream types.
Remember back in the '80s when there was cool stuff, but also slick operators like 'Sharper Image' shining some of it up to sell to the rubes and the unwashed masses? It's still like that, same as it ever was.
Nerd has never been 'cool' nor has it every been a marketing demographic, because we hose down the marketing fucks anytime they get to close to what matter.
Europe is not any one particular political system. It's not Socialist nor is it Social Democrat. It is numerous countries all with their own governments formed by their Citizens.
You can probably run NetBSD on it. It will be like with some of the Apple Powerbooks, though, meaning you'll only be able to run NetBSD on it over a serial console because there's no graphics support. The serial port you can create by plugging in a USB adapter. Of course, the USB adapter won't be supported during installation, so you'll need to install the OS on the drive on some other machine, then move it to the HP machine (after changing the init script to go to the serial console, of course, of course....)
Blacks communities also seem to have the largest rate of single mothers raising children, why are the black husbands not staying and helping raise their kids?
Sadly, the father is probably in jail, incarcerated for a victimless (drug-related) crime.
And I pay about $35-40 most of those months for electricity. What is your monthly payment on the loan for the solar panel installation? Or was it a large lump sum payment?
Don't be silly. We always kick the can further up the sidewalk.
Plus, there's money to be made in the whole regulatory soup of that mess. Get involved in politics. Become close to the agency heads. Set up a 'clean up' company for your son to run. It isn't easy being green, but it sure brings in the green stuff!
Once we start using photo-voltaic energy to make photo-voltaics we drown in a sea of dopants like arsenic. Sweet, lovely low-level contamination of everything.
Then we become the 'fossil fuel' of the future, for new life forms 20,000,000 years from now to utilize.
but have to pay to dispose of the old ones because of "toxic" materials?
Don't worry. There will be entrepreneurs taking advantage of the opportunity to dispose of the 'toxic materials' just like the gimme festival for liberal entrepreneurs that operations like 'Asbestos cleanup' and 'Recycling' entail. Companies with Green logos, feelgood jobs for dirty hippies driving trucks, etc. etc.
Net Expansion just means more of it is 'being built' because of subsidies and other government perks.
The percentage of installed capacity is a more important thing to consider, because the infrastructure in place still dwarfs photovoltaic cell production.
Anything can be said to be 'dramatically increasing' in comparison to something else, if you pick the right snapshot of time during which a large change is occurring.
"Don't like certain specific STEM fields" can be interpreted as you insisting that they are scientific fields. You asserting that GP commenter 'doesn't like' them is a churlish way of insisting they are 'science'.
Yes, when snark recurses sometimes it gets confusing.
That you personally really like certain specific STEM fields says more about you than it does about the prizes.
It says that they understand science and the scientific process, and that elaborate 'stamp collector using numbers' disciplines like Economics have their place in the body of human knowledge, but are not Science.
Nominally, Tesla is an automaker. But really, it's a Silicon Valley Unicorn disguised as an automaker. Only the nuvo-rich Silicon Valley smartbrats buy into their bullshit.
What the heck is your connection to Tesla, BTW? You're all over any discussion of Tesla here on Slashdot like a fly on a lump of shit.

Unfortunately, it wasn't posted on usenet, so Godwin's law does not apply.

via the public paying for roads,
Roads are paid for by the end-user in the form of a gasoline tax.
gasoline cars were massively by the military investment in product production
I suppose we could have defeated the Nazis with horse-drawn carriages....
oil production continues to be insanely subsidized but the government refusing to charge a fair price for production on public lands
You pay for it coming or going. The end user just pays at whatever point.
Rex? Rex Ballard?

On Solar Powered i7 laptops with bulging muscular GPUs!
Point me to a solar panel company that can issue a 30 year warranty and be assured of being here in 30 years. Solyndra?

Life is a lovely never-ending cycle.
Disease has a way of cancelling out dense population. It's just a chemical/biological reality.

Well, why don't you start a company, make a few $$$$ Billion
The modern equivalent to who Nobel was would be for Dick Cheney to establish the Halliburton Prize.

than let governments in the world do it. And they WILL do it if the corporations don't.
Said governments do not have the right to do that.
Let them try, though. There's no harm in governments having even less credibility. We'll make sure the word continues to get out.
They are wise mandarins, and we would be foolish not to pay close attention to what they tell us.
Much of the fake news was carried on Cat5 ethernet cable and over Wi-Fi.
Thus, Cat5 and Wi-Fi have failed us again! When will we learn???
