Those of you who haven't tried looking at the Japanese site are missing out and adding some confusion to the discussion.

The input method for this device is actually a small thumb-keyboard, similar to the RIM blackberry device. It's hiding underneath the control buttons, which is very cool as it stays out of the way when you're looking up information. I think this would make entering data much easier than Grafitti, which has lots of problems (ever tried playing zork on a palm while riding the subway? endless frustration :).

It also contains some kind of mpeg 4 movie player.

This device is really cool... but the future of these devices is definitely how well they interact with your other computer systems. If it's not too hard to create conduit-like things for it, that would help, but even better would be an easy way to pass any kind of information between it and multiple computers.

  2. I don't believe this program really happened. on Fox Moon Special Response · · Score: 1
Since I personally was not in front of the television when the program aired, I think it quite plausible that the television show itslef never happened at all. Here's my evidence:
    1. People are reporting that the "channel" the broadcast occurred on was different. Since it aired on Fox, I know it had to have been on channel 5. Why are people saying they saw it on channels 2,3,4,6,7,etc?
    2. The people supposedly in the broadcast were reportedly doing other things at the time that the show was being aired. Clearly, if the show actually existed, then the people in the show would have been in the show at that time, instead of at home or out partying.
    3. I didn't see it, so how could it have happened?
The Elders of Zion must be behind this, I just know it.

A system of equidistant, uniformly sized rectangles, placed at 90 degree angles from each other, that allow any person/animal the ability to locomote from one distinct elevation upwards to another, or any person/animal/SlinkyTM to locomote from one distinct elevation downwards to another. This patent also applies to all similarly shaped locomotive aids, even if the rectangles are in motion.

  4. Re:For the record -- "Exodus"?? on Introducing The New Slashdot Setup · · Score: 2

Exodus is a datacenter company in the real estate business. Essentially, they build buildings, put in huge air conditioners, fat digital pipes, and security guards, then sell cages within for individual sites' boxes. They'll monitor servers but generally are pretty hands off, so its a good deal for companies that have their own admins but don't want to build their own datacenters. In short, your estimation is on the money.

  5. This is different, but not much. on Live or Memorex? · · Score: 1

Journalists rely on being able to present stories the way they see them. Ideally, the way they see them is the truth, but every human has an opinion on what they see, and journalists need to present those opinions. In the past, the way this was done was by critical omission. Information that backs up a story is presented; information that doesn't is conveniently left behind or only briefly glossed over. We all knew that doctoring images would become a part of the media. Having it in live-time ups the ante for anybody who desires true, balanced reporting. My question: what could be a way around this? Is the answer in the Internet, where identifying trustworthy reporters is even harder than TV? Or do there need to exist more publically funded stations?
