So, as for the prawns being considered stupid drones, I don't really think that. I think the parallel they were trying to draw with the scientists "theorizing" that the prawns were all drones to notions of racial superiority. The prawns have no initiative because they were slowly forced to live in slums. The humans then theorize that the reason these slum-dwelling creatures have no initiative is because they are genetically inferior to them, and continue to oppress them. This is really similar to the treatment of racially imposed slums, where the leading thinkers of the "superior" race declare that the oppressed race is inferior, and cites as evidence, "Look, when we through them all in slums and exploit them, they don't care."
You can't really describe Apple as solely a hardware company. They also have other products that are solely software, but the best way to describe them is as a "computer" company. They sell computers, with all the hardware and all the software you need. This notion you have of a "hardware" company and a "software" company being two different things is drawn from the PC market, which has a much different business model. Apple sells a product whose main feature is the fact that they design every part of their products themselves. Say what you want about Macs and what features they include and how they can't run X software or have Y buttons on their mouse, but this business model gives their products a significant advantage in producing the desired result of an all-inclusive computer that just works.
Only making "high end" computers is Apple's own prerogative. Their business model could probably not compete with your run of the mill PC manufacturer that can cut costs by putting together any amalgamation of parts and software, while they would have to put together significant development resources to design such a computer from the ground up. Instead they have found their niche market in high-end computers.
from my understanding, the limit is imposed by the bandwidth-per-point transmitted over bluetooth, and not the onboard image processing on the wiimote.
Next version of X.Org (7.9) is supposed to have hotplug support for monitors, release date next wednesday. I'm hoping itll work, i just got a new 20" monitor that I haven't bothered trying to set up in linux yet since I'm hoping xorg'll do it automatically. I'm just using OSX until then.
I dual boot (K)Ubuntu with OSX on my all my macs. Being a programmer, I tend to stick to linux more, but OSX is definately a nice operating system. And I like having a native 64bit OS on my new macbook.
If I had to choose, it would be ubuntu.
Wait... are you trying to say that you changed your whole desktop environment because you did not like its naming scheme. I'm sure there are many valid reasons (I have yet to come across any, mind you) for using gnome over kde, but the preference of 'g' over 'k' is not one of them.
I don't know if this is exactly what you meant, but the source code to OSX is open source, just not Aqua and all the high-level software. It's called Darwin. I don't think it's GPL'd, but it is opensource.
Because people are too lazy and too stupid to do that themselves. They'ld much rather elect some moron to do it for them and then bitch when the moron doesn't do what they want. Plus, it would be a bit of a hastle to have a few hundred million people voting on every action a country takes.
the reason being IE no longer is the market leader.
Last time I checked, IE had somewhere between 70 and 80% market share. So umm... yeah. Designers are still making sure their content works on all major webbrowsers, but haven't they always?
What... the hell.
I don't let steve force me to buy a new computer every 5~6 years... I get a new one every 2 years, and not always a mac.
You need to rethink your life.
With their OS kernel being based on some *nix variety (BSD? I can't remember) I would guess that the processor itself is unimportant if their software and APIs are hardware transparent.
OSX is Darwin, an open source unix os that apple started. The closed source part is Aqua and all the other bundled software. There are a bunch of darwin off spring that I'm sure work on just about any platform. The problem would be getting the other stuff to run, but it's a start. I recall reading something about someone getting OSX running on an AMD machine.
TLC used to be awesome.
On the discovery channel you can still catch some educational content most of the time, so you're exagerating it a bit.
I watch the History Channel for all my educational content.
I do believe one can trust an open source program. If you don't like what's going on, why don't you take a peak into the source...
That being said, Gentoo is my distro of choice. Apt is nothing compared to Portage. If you have the 3 days it takes to install, it's definately worth it to spend that time setting up a nice gentoo system. Debian is nice, but I really only need it when I need to get a server up and running in under two hours. I recommend it to new linux converts since the set up is highly automatic and it's really easy to use.

How do you know that Microsoft doesn't use different schedulers in their Desktop editions as opposed to their Server editions?
No, Patrick Stewart says, "Make it so."

I see somebody's never had a laptop with a P4 in it.
Also note that the two speciffic ranges that are ampliffied by the tinfoil hats are those that are reserved for the government and for corporate use.
It was. Play with me. Get up. I want to spell right now!

Or just do what leaders do today and not goto war at all and sit on your fat ass at home.
I, and many of my friends, have never stopped playing starcraft. It is the greatest war-RTS ever.

Workers of the world unite!
Hell no. In fact, the universe revolves around ME

Coke is the essence of life. Without coke the world would be doomed. Not to mention my nocturnal procrastination habits.
Debian has a much nicer set up and configuration.
Forgot to mention, Gentoo also has binaries available for install through portage as well as the source, so what now, Apt?
