Yes, Eugenics has a bad rap because of the way it used to be done forcibly in Nazi Germany, the US and other places. But what's wrong with it if it's done in an ethically responsible way? [Prospective] parents have access to genetic testing/counseling if there's known risks like hereditary diseases, and embryos can be tested and aborted if they have severe [genetic] defects. If a couple has significant genetic defects they can choose to adopt. That's eugenics, pure and simple. What's wrong with that? And don't start with a slippery slope argument. It's up to legislation to set the proper limits and it's up to society to apply scientific results in the proper way. We are able to read the genome today, and it's getting cheaper and cheaper. Applied properly, this can be very beneficial. Applied badly, see Gattaca.
It started with painting "liberal" as something bad. In the rest of the world, "liberal" has a positive connotation. To me, "liberal" sounds a lot better than "conservative" as long as the "conservative" isn't prefixed with "fiscally" or "environmentally."
but a democrat is likely to choose someone who is pro civil-liberties, while a republican is likely to go more pragmatic. Pragmatic like the current administration? Like stem cells or WMD in Iraq? Or the abstinence campaign in Sex Ed? I could go on and on. "Wishful thinking" would be more appropriate. Yes, McCain sounds more reasonable than W, but then W sounded reasonable 8 years ago too.
That's what overweight people think or say. People with low bodyfat generally know why: they know how/what to eat and are in caloric balance - consciously or unconsciously. This took me a couple of years to learn. Metabolic freaks are extremely rare. Just imagine what a huge evolutionary disadvantage that would have been up until a few centuries ago.
There is practically no evidence that running damages knees that don't have pre-existing damage. Conversely, any kind of exercise relieves arthritis symptoms, including running if it is possible. The problem is that if the thigh muscles aren't strong enough to guide the knee through the gait cycle, especially the landing, the joint and the tendons don't track properly, which causes pain. That's only a matter of power/weight ratio, i.e. training. Yes, if you're overweight and your muscles can't handle the weight, your knees hurt.
In Frankfurt, they're installing similar systems in bars and clubs to remind people to take a taxi after they had a few (and crashed horribly in the game.) The Piss-Screen(TM), "an interactive urinary experience."
If you look at the referenced arxiv article, you'll see that they propose to use neutrinos in the PeV range which 1. do not occur naturally at all (very good S/N ratio) and 2. are detected more easily than the few 100 keV to MeV neutrinos from the usual nuclear reactions inside stars and supernovae. There is a proposal on how to generate them using a huge linear accelerator and about 1 GW of power. And yes, they can be focused into a beam.
I agree but who will want to invest that much time? With more intense exercise an hour per day is enough. I started with an hour of running during lunch break.
That's a good summary you wrote. Not enough emphasis on fiber and micronutrients you get from whole grains, fruit and vegetables, but spot on for the macronutrients. Avoiding simple carbs and fats (except for a small amount of good fats) is the key. Among other things, this means no fries, no sodas, no burgers, no candy bars. Not regularly, anyway.
Start running or cycling (no, walking isn't enough.)
Most of all, learn about proper nutrition. Being in shape is 60% nutrition, 30% exercise, and 10% genetics. There's many good sources of information. Reading Men's Health may be a good start, or find some good books on the subject.
Schedule a couple of hours per week. It's not hard.
RS232 is still very much the standard when it comes to debugging/configuration ports on large external subsystems. Tape libraries and large RAIDs for example, or appliances. I use RS232 ports almost every day.
That's just your and your friends' nerdiness. A good consumer will click on anything shiny, just like (s)he will sit through 20 minutes of ads per show, and buy something based on the ads. Marketing folks aren't dumb - they're highly paid and rating systems show what works and what doesn't. I don't know if comparable rating systems exist for web advertising though.
Yup. I need about 3,500 calories per day, running 40-50 miles per week. But... I know that it's much healthier to eat natural, unprocessed food so what I eat probably takes a lot fewer resources than the industrial food and dead cows that most people are so fond of.
Actually it's bad. Products from animals that aren't fed naturally are higher in fat and have a bad Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acid ratio. That contributes to several health issues like cardiovascular disease, depression and immune system problems like asthma. Read the wikipedia article on Omega-3 fatty acids for a start.

Now *that* is what I call geek speak. Atomic? Damn geeks! ZOMG, we're all going to die from radiation!!!11!eleven!

Can't be.
The cult of Jobs and the cult of FOSS are strong here.
What if the nuke operators want to work from home?
Conversely, you can argue that telling people that it's hard will discourage them right from the start.
You can always ease into an exercise regimen.

Sounds like he should be a hero to many Americans.
Ok I stole this one from endgadget but I thought your keyboard could use a shower too.

But how do they handle TCP on the Intergalactic Web?
Do the noodles transmit data FTL? Maybe they're tachyon fibers.

Why on earth would anyone want to run Linux on a Windows box? That's like building your house on a dung hill.
Sounds just as bad as running Windows on top of DOS.That's just your and your friends' nerdiness.
