While I strongly disagree with making it criminal, the most common logic I've heard is it will incite pedophiles to an action they wouldn't otherwise have taken.
Just like porn makes you go rape white women.
Yeah, all that porn all around us makes people go stark raving mad raping everyone in sight... While in fact the liberalization of porn in the 70s resulted in a significant reduction of the number of rapes in the US. For obvious reasons... jerking off regularly reduces testosterone levels. It probably also blunts your response. Remember when people got all excited about seeing a woman's knee? Well I guess nobody would because that was like 100 years ago. So you could argue that giving pedophiles something to jerk off to might reduce sexual child abuse.
4) How much does the prison-industrial system make per arrest? What's the total revenue it pulls from the the war on drugs? 4a) How much of that is kicked back to the cops?
Rehabilitate? I think this is the first time I've heard that term used in relation to the US penal system. Isn't it just about putting people away and using them for cheap labor?
Watt per hour is physically meaningless. Power is the first time derivative of energy. The second would be change of power over time, something you're probably not interested in.
If I were an owner, I'd rather like to protect my investments from Billions of dollars of permanently destroyed plants, cleanup and damage (property and potentially health related) claims by making a few millions of dollars of investments.
Why, if the cost of an accident is borne by the taxpayer? If not, you ask the government for a bailout since the cost is much too high for you. Now, if seppuku was still required you'd have a point, but if the worst consequences for you are having to apologize in public and a golden handshake you'd be stupid to reduce profits (and your bonus) by investing in safety.
The tsunami was much taller than their flood wall, almost 50 feet, so it didn't really matter. Oh and the sea wall of San Onofre in SoCal is 30 feet high. It's not just the Japanese system that's at fault.
Everybody here knows what to do when it rains. You have two choices: 1. Ignore the rain, step on it and rely on your 4-wheel drive and ABS. Or, 2. Drive as if it's black ice.
"It's" == "it is" or "it has". No exceptions. The possessive form of "it" is "its". Maybe it's because English is my 3rd language but this is one of my pet peeves.
Toshiba is one of the world leaders in 2.5" drives though. I can remember when they made 3.5" drives and they weren't bad either. They gave those up due to profit reasons a number of years ago.
While this is a cool gag, didn't they get the memo that hydrogen is inefficient compared to batteries and that methane is much easier/cheaper to work with if you really want to run fuel cells? It probably took them a couple of years to get hydrogen to work, at least in a small car. I guess we'll hear as much about it as of the hydrogen BWM 7-series.
Well I learned in my first semester that thou shalt not compare reals for equality, at least not if they are the result of an arithmetic operation. There are languages that don't have an == operator for reals. Good idea if you ask me.
So has Slashdot been banned yet? File lockers? Blogs? I have a feeling those datasets need some replication so the Turks can get them.
Chicken

Hey, corporations are people, so drawn children might be too.
^ This.
I had to spend some time in the DFW area. Worst time of my life. Sigh.

I asked what cheap prisoner labor and the cost of lodging in those fine institutions have to do with each other.
Benford had it first. One of my favorite authors.
What do the two have to do with each other?
Rehabilitate?

Umm... Clothing? Gloves?

What, you can't disassemble and grok 60-some MB in 5 minutes? Wimp.

I can't even appreciate why this was done.
Guilty until proven innocent. Duh. Think of teh children!
Kinda. "Enterprise" SATA drives are identical to desktop drives except for the firmware these days.
10/15krpm drives are a different story of course.

The most entertaining read was The Number of the Beast IMHO. Pure fun.
Oh yes! The Squozer :)
