To somebody that is more objective on the topic, he sounds like somebody who thinks noisy Slashdotters should at least be consistent. The whole 'competition is good' principle falls on its face if one company is held to a different standard than another's.
There was a reason why people wanted their own PCs instead of relying on mainframe access.
You mean 'no mainframes at home'?
You keep your data in the cloud because looking for a decentralized way seems too much work. Now live with the consequences. (And yes, this is the logical consequence, not just a glitch.)
You should save this argument for a naturally occurring event (i.e. going out of business) instead of an isolated case of policy-based-asshattery. I get that that's the point you're trying to make, but the real issue here is about consolidation of services, not that it's on the 'cloud'.
You know what else creates less e-waste? Hanging on to your perfectly good older TV instead of buying a newer, bigger TV every time the electronics companies bring them to market.
People here are having trouble separating "computers stopped coming with floppy drives" and "I was using CD-Rs long before machines stopped using floppies"... also this is a thread about Netflix but the off-topic mod isn't being used properly.
Yeah? Can I see this statistic on creative professionals and their choice of OS?
I'm curious because I work in a major entertainment industry and Mac usage is pretty high. I wouldn't say it's the majority but there are quite a few. Rare is not a word I would use, at all. Maybe outside of this industry it's a different story all together. It'd be interesting to see the numbers on that.
You seem very slow. Do you need us to draw you a picture or something?
I guess so, I just don't see what's so offensive about it.
The line says "any creative professional" not "Mac-using creative professionals". That's false.
Sure. Commander Data would agree with you.
It would be like saying "as any woman knows, Ace Cleaning Products are the best!"
Generalizing about millions of people is hard and print demands brevity. Applying literalism to this is just nitpicky.
Of course that's not what you meant because for some reason you'd rather be a dick about this than read the black-and-white line that has already been quoted for you.
I'm a creative professional who works in Windows. My whole team uses Windows. We make creative decisions that create huge ripples throughout the projects we work on. Yet that statement didn't bother me in the slightest. I don't understand why your panties jumped up into your crack about it.
I'm still unclear as to WHY Netflix has to pay licensing fees. There are no licensing fees attached to regular movie rentals so how is Netflix any different?
With physical media there are a certain amount of copies in existence. They pay a premium for each of those discs. With streaming, they'd only buy the one copy and stream it infinity times.
Governor's School was the first place I discovered where asking questions, thinking carefully and communicating clearly were valued rather than suppressed. It gave me hope that there were communities that valued wrestling with questions and solving problems and encouraged me to seek them out.
Ah. So why do you come to the Slashdot comments section, then?
I doubt that. They'd see a pattern and draw a line to where they think it will logically end. Then, instead of bad will orbiting one event, it's a growing festering hatred.
Citation needed.
Take a moment to consider how the concept of the Slashdot GroupThinkTM became an intuitive name for a commonly held observation.
Especially since the same people might not even have modpoints this time.
That supports my point.
Oh look, another dumb person thinking that Slashdot is a single mind.
Yeah, imagine somebody making that mistake when moderation follows popular opinion. What a huge leap.
Sounds like you're a bit of a sore Apple user...

Why did you get rid of your perfectly good computer and generate lots of e-waste?
You know what else creates less e-waste? Hanging on to your perfectly good older TV instead of buying a newer, bigger TV every time the electronics companies bring them to market.
Did you type this on your five year old computer?
Wrong.
That's bunk. Technology is also used to reduce the number of fatalities.
Wait, you were seriously using that as an argument?
Well... actually we did slip one into something you've seen... ;)
People here are having trouble separating "computers stopped coming with floppy drives" and "I was using CD-Rs long before machines stopped using floppies" ... also this is a thread about Netflix but the off-topic mod isn't being used properly.
Wow. Use your brain, dude. Seriously.
Extremists have done it again.
FTFY.

Stop being a jerk and shut up. Honestly, it's not like 'terrorism' isn't a big part of what we talk about or anything.

So... imaginary persecution then?
So... the problem stems from being overly literal. Okay.
You mean, any creative professional who uses a Mac.
Are you implying those people are a rare breed?
I love the "redundant" mod. I'm the only one to point to the dupe so far...
People bitch about dupes all the time. That's what's redundant.
What's funny is my pointing this out is also redundant. Heh.
...my movie got interrupted, without any regard for whether it was the middle of a scene or not. Each time the same video-game ad was replayed.
Ugh. I had this happen once when I watched Groundhog Day on Hulu...

The point is that 'gay' doesn't always mean 'homosexual.'. You must have missed the second half of my post..
You must have missed the post that kicked this all off.
It's a generic insult.
Speaking of missing second halves of posts....
