    If your car is 25 years old and you're worried the wheels are going to fall off, would you just hand it over to the scrapyard without buying a new car (or newer car) first?

    No, but I also don't commission Ford to spend years to build build me a fleet of cars that cost hundreds of grands each to last me for thirty years while I'm already managing oodles of under-funded car trips.

    I can't believe this is the second time I've heard this stupid car analogy in this context.

    Lots of people here spent the last 5 years bitching about how the shuttle was old and needed to be retired, now it's happened and everybody's making gloomy predictions about how we'll never leave the atmosphere again.

    Right, some people are stuck in the past. The reality is that, despite the existence of shitheads, homosexuality is accepted in this society. You can argue about that if you like, but at the end of the day, somebody calling you gay will not result in having a duel at dawn anymore.

    Yes, looking at the picture I wouldn't exactly say it survived.

    He can sync it with iTunes, get a new phone, and after a fresh sync be right back where he was just before he dropped it. If the phone hadn't 'survived' he'd likely be out several pictures etc.

    We but it, she puts a copy on her iPod ( which she uses while bike riding and at the gym) through iTunes, we burn a copy of the CD and put on in the CD changer in the car and the original gets put into the CD collection. Guess what, the EVIL record companies don;t give a shit about that.

    Yes they do. They think you owe them for every copy that you have. That's why in the original iTunes DRM scheme there was a limit to how many machines could have a copy of that music. They also think Taxi cab drivers owe them a licensing fee for having the radio on in their car while passengers are riding.

    You should take a closer look at those poor innocent little record companies that you think have been so unfairly judged. If you actually do this, please do it in front of a web cam so we can watch the expressions on your face change while you read about what their idea of 'fair use' is.

    you CAN get drm free mp3s from itunes now. has that actually decreased any piracy? nope.

    Unless zero Mp3s have been sold, how can you actually state that? Are masses of people buying MP3s then 'pirating' them?

    Yesterday Slashdot's summary said the last update was to prevent jailbreaking. The article said it was to fix the PDF vulnerability. So, yes, you might expect otherwise if you weren't terribly well informed on the topic.

    -lack of awareness of how the exploits you've mentioned actually work.
    -lack of a basic understanding of how this sort network would actually work.
    -lack of an understanding how how one would actually get into a network
    -lack of awareness of how fictional TV really is.
    -lack of a good rebuttal.
    -lack of humility because you think reading a bunch of Slashdot headlines makes you well informed.

    It's not possible to you because the door is open for it to happen, it's possible to you because you don't know why it isn't.
