What do you take to a coffee place when you go hang around there, your PC? Apple has iPad. iPhone looks cool. Mac doesn't have the same malware problems like Microsoft Windows. For years Windows has been plagued with viruses, exploits and malware. That is not true for OSX or Linux. Only an idiot would use Microsoft Windows now - I keep to my OSX thank you very much.

You still need to be wise about what you install. You still need to stay up to date with software patches. You still need to make backups of your important files. You still cannot treat your computer like it'll never betray you.

It's not even really a case of 'deserving' it. They created ill-will with a group of people, and those people retaliated. In the short term, a lot of people are getting burned by the outage. Looking at the big picture, however, Sony will have to think long and hard about whether or not to remove features in the future.

What the 'hackers' did was criminal and not justifiable. They should not have done this. (I bet somebody replies without having read this bit.) But if Sony shows any wisdom at all, they'll learn from it.

Ok. So why did Netflix specify those particular phones?

I haven't the slightest clue. What I do know is that every phone I've heard of so far that is running Gingerbread is capable of running this app. My Droid does and it is the slowest of the "second generation" Android phones out there so it can't be for performance or memory reasons. Obviously, they baked their own DRM in as my Droid doesn't have anything that they would likely be using so it can't be that. So, you tell me, why those phones?

I don't know, either. One thing that is pretty clear, though, is that it doesn't make sense from a business perspective for Netflix to only support certain phones, especially when it's clear the rest of phones can run the app. There is something going on there.
