I'm tired of this argument because it's well, wrong.
I'm sorry, but it isn't. Want to deliver more data to the home? Invest in better technology. Most of that being a one-time investment, mind you. Want to deliver more water to the home? You had better have a source to get that water from. There'll never be a such thing, for example, as a data drought.
None of these companies are trying to alleviate unexpected network troubles through billing, they're trying to increase their already-generous profit margin. (Notice their use of tiered plans, instead of the reasonable suggestion you made.) It doesn't make sense with data.
Oddly enough, I can see how Hitachi's experience in particular with building hard drives would lend itself to developing devices that can detect explosives.
That statement applies to everybody. If Apple really could just push any old crap into mainstream success, then they'd be a marketing firm for hire and you'd have a lot more crap in your house.
You still need a good product to start with, sorry.
Boring generic anti-Facebook tirade aside, you do raise an interesting question: Facebook's privacy didn't change, it just failed to be breached. So what got 'boosted'? Your perception of it?
All of your examples are 1-generation fads, the iPhone and its related product line are all between 3 and 8 generations old and still going strong. Sorry to tell you this, but there's more than just pixie dust happening. If marketing was such a magical solution there would be a LOT more Apples out there.
Man, I even said 'kidding'.
Why is your master training you to sense butthurt?
How do we know which phones those are? We only talk about Apple!
You do know that Apple recently opened up manufacturing in Brazil, right?
We'll take care of that next week while we're getting you neutered.

I had a reading comprehension fail there, it's my bad.
But.. but.. but... I thought by boycotting Apple I was helping the workers!!
You know what, I totally misread the summary. It's my bad and I apologize. Please mod my post down.

Did anyone else initially see "STDs"?
STD's really aren't on our radar, so ... no.
Oddly enough, I can see how Hitachi's experience in particular with building hard drives would lend itself to developing devices that can detect explosives.
You mean like water, where you pay for what you use?
You know what water companies don't do? They don't make you pay $10/mo. for 10 liters of water or $20/mo. for 80 liters of water.
Oh, and water, electricity, and gas are finite resources. Data is not.
It does make me wish Apple would release a TV so Samsung'd finally get on the ball.
Watch out, Apple.. we have a FILE SYSTEM!!!
And actually, as I understand it, they use Linux for a lot more than just Android devices. They also have embedded Linux in other systems, like TVs.
Really? Well that explains why my Samsung TV has such a horrible interface*.
* Kidding. :P
Because they could do both and make more money than they are making now.
Fanboyism and marketing do not paint a complete picture of the sales of tens of millions of devices.
I agree It's a shame Apple won't open up iOS so that we can fill up our landfills with magazine advertisements that are capable of phoning home.
But, hey, it's running Android! Fap fap fap!
You're free to mod my post down if you like, but imagine if I had said "iPhone is the shit". Oh, gee, I'd be a stupid fanboy, right?
Android is the shit.
Fap fap fap.
The one that happens even in the absence of the other.

Ultimate SOB? Wow.. I'm kinda proud of that!

Ha.

this post on /. is private. Now i can discuss CmdrTaco's sexual proclivities without embarrassing him!
So is that why you chose a nickname that contains the words 'anus' and 'bi'?
