  1. Re:It's things like this that... on Game/Movie Comparisons Raise Art Question Again · · Score: 2, Informative

People who would argue that movies aren't art and because theyrequire vast amounts of money or corporate backing have not studied their art history. Most artists could not afford to be an artist in Medieval times without a Patron or financial backer. The cost of some pigments alone were more than most people would ever see in their lifetime. Look at the Catholic church. How many wondrous pieces of art were made in it's name. They were the biggest financial backer at that time. As an artist, I would consider gaming art, and movies as well. They all involve a creative purpose. As do all artistic endeavours. Whether it be artists who use menstrual blood and feces to rail at the establishment, your local glass blower or potter to people like Brian Choo who is the creator of Episodes 1,2,3 robots. Just because a process embraces the technology of the time doesn't mean it's therefore invalid. Artist have used technology for ages. Look up Vermeer and see the work he did with optics if you need an example. But this is just my humble opinion.

I have to say that there are men out there who can have an intelligent conversation without losing all brain power at the sight of any cleavage I choose to show. It's a refreshing and lovely experience. I have no interest in actor XXXX XXXXX. For me it's more about someone as a person than surface looks. Afterall the better you know a person the better looking they become. I agree that women can be just as bad if not worse than men when it comes to the ogling. We can get away with things that would get men arrested. A double standard I agree.

AS a female I have to say that while I do appreciate the amount of money these women are forcing all you boys to pay to see them what would truly impress me is to see booth babes who actually are gamers. I mean if they stand there loooking stupid and hot that's one thing but what if you could actually talk intelligently to one and still ogle her breasts? Hotness factor increases. But that's just my opinion.

My Dad does Doom as well. So I totally understand. It's kind of funny isn't it. He's turning 60 this year so I get the age thing as well. There's a certain sense of nostalgia and wierdness about helping your Dad play computer games. It's funny I'm the geek in the family and I got my bro into playing Warcrack as well. We're insidious I tell you, bua ha ha.

  6. Growing up Geek on 35% Of Parents Game · · Score: 1

I played games with my parents growing up all the time. I remember playing on the Atari with my Dad. Some of my favorite memories are playing tabletop D&D with my parents and sibling, which technically isn't an electronic game but the principle is the same. Even now I'll play with my Dad, well, more like feed him hints on how to play Neverwinter Nights as he can't seem to get into non D&D games. Anything that encourages family bonding time is good in my opinion.

  7. Sigh... on Nintendo Announces DS Lite · · Score: 1

Okay I'm a giant gamer. But my first inclination is to roll my eyes at this. Yes I know that it is a good system and having a handheld appeals to my geek sensibilities. Th urge to goo and ga over it and say "ooo shiny" is strong within me. But then my other side asserts itself. How long will this model last? Will we see another different version in a year to compete with the new model PSP will bring out to compete against the "Lite". Will we forever be in a ever revolving circle of having to have the new yearly product to siphon funds out of my Warcraft fund.

Guys, while I absolutely love the series, I dont' think it'll happen either. WE aren't just looking at the idea of Joss Whedon coming back into the picture (especially while getting moveis like Wonder Woman) but think about the time span since the series. Do you really think they're going to be able to get all the actors back into the series? and will the chemistry be the same? What I wouldn't mind seeing and would be a possibility is maybe the same universe but another cast, with writers like Tim Minear on it again it could be doable. But frankly there's never going to be the money for it. After cancelling Angel right before it's last season was to wrap up when it was the top show on the network Fox pretty muched showed it's ineptitude.

  10. Pondering... on Not Every Game is a Sequel · · Score: 2, Interesting

My question is what therefore becomes an original concept for a game? Don't we really already have the most strangely unimaginable games out there? With games being the most lucrative form of entertainment and appealing to all sorts of genres we fall into the same stereotype as with movies. Every so often a gem comes out that everyone loves, but don't we still all go back to our old favorites, it's like comfort food. They become old friends and the sories and plots become our own sort of mythos. Therefore to me the idea of griping about original games is the same as griping about all the fantasy books being based on Tolkein, etc. Debate anyone?
