I have a program, but it will not completely run on my system. it will give an error when I try to perform certain functions. I contacted the author about it, and he said the error was caused by my date / time format being non-standard, and that I could change the format in the control panel. the program in question is Agent Ransack, by MythicSoft I have never met another program that throws errors about this, and I have several programs that actually use the time stamp format I specify in the control panel, if anyone is wondering, it's yyyy.mmdd HHnn.ss

The big difference is that they're not managed the same by the IT department, which means that they don't get updates, don't have antivirus, etc.
PLEASE. as if a network printer could run Microsoft Windows. now-a-days you need a MINIMUM of 64 MB of ram. oh wait, are you gonna tell me that HP are using their old unsold OEM copies of Windows 95/98/3.1? even then, you needed several hundred MB of hard drive space to store the operating system when the computer was off.. where's the hard drive? between the transfer corona and the primary corona?

someone ripped Apple's interface for their iPhone and has now published the interface for other, non-iPhone Smartphones. my questions is this:
what would Apple do if someone ripped off their MacOSX interface and ported it to Microsoft Windows, or Linux. or, what would Microsoft do if Joe Shmoe ripped off Windows XP's Luna interface and ported it to MacOSX, or Linux? (I don't know if MaxOSX is capable of being `skinned' or not.) would they do the same thing? or would they just ignore it, or encourage it?

The original studies which started this were botanists trying to make more pink petunias - when they inserted more "pink" genes, the petunias came out white.
plant cells have a basic defense mechanism to guard against viral infection. each gene sequence is like a page, when a cell is running normally, there is one page for each gene sequence. when a virus infects the cell, sometimes it will generate multi-page gene sequences, repeating a single page multiple times. the cell's defense mechanism detects these multi-page gene sequences and neutralizes them. when the botanists multiplied the pink gene sequences the defense mechanism took it to be a virus infection and neutralized the gene sequences, thus no pink color.
the key is not to have more pink genes, but to alter what is already there to make it more, or less pink, or some other color altogether

the reason that the stealth aircraft with the radar signature of a small bird isn't seen is because if the radar system could see the signature of the aircraft, then it could see the signature of every small bird within the range of the radar system, which is quite a lot. and a single radar pulse is not capable of detecting speed, you need multiple radar pulses to detect speed. it's like being in a dark room with a strobe light. you can tell how fast an object is moving by gauging the distance the object has moved between flashes. going back to seeing the signature of every small bird, on the radar screen it is impossible to tell where one bird has moved to, since there are 129,600 possible general directions it could have gone. not to mention that birds frequently drop below the radar level, while other birds rise into the radar, and, birds, somewhat like stealth aircraft, don't carry transponder systems

the F-117 Nighthawk has control systems that work faster than 30 seconds. I was watching a documentary on television about military aircraft and they were flying around in an F-117, and near the end of the flight, the spotter plane said "maybe we should land now." and the pilot of the nighthawk asked why, and the spotter said "because you've lost part of your left wing." The pilot didn't even notice. not because the aircraft's control system knew that part of the left wing was gone, but because it knew that the plane wasn't doing what the pilot wanted it to do, so the control system automatically adjusted the control surfaces to compensate. all aerodynamically unstable fly-by-wire aircraft have these types of systems. it's how an aerodynamically unstable aircraft can fly without the pilot going nuts while correcting and recorrecting the aircraft. If you could put wings and an engine strong enough to lift it, onto the eifel tower, or the statue of liberty, this type of system could keep it stable as it flew.
