    I would have more respect for Yelp's complaint if they just blocked Google and other monopolies altogether. They however exclusively only allow Google and other monopolies to crawl their site while blocking everyone else. Talk about hypocrisy.

    Look at their robots.txt file. They only allow monopolies to crawl their site and for everyone else there is this big FU:

    User-Agent: *
    Disallow: /

    I and others have dealt with them directly on this to get this changed for text but no luck.

    Anyone find a replacement for Firebug and it's many add-ons?

    Most crucial to me for years now is using the Firebug add-on along with it's numerous third party Firebug add-ons that many other developers provide. It is an absolutely crucial add-on for myself and my team. These Firebug add-on's are all legacy now, with no plans for an update and Firebug has discontinued it in favor of Firefox Developer Tools.

    However the Firefox Developer Tools UI pretty add-on is an unwieldy to a point of being complete and utter shit. Simple tasks take seconds to a minute longer using it's slow and cumbersome UI rather than the instantaneous shortcuts and speed that Firebug provided. Many features and add-ons we had with Firebug are no longer available with the Firefox Developer Tools. So it really is not an option or any point in using the Firefox developer tools in place of Firebug.

    Those of us that came to rely on Firebug and it's many add-on are screwed now. So here we had for years Firefox and it's many add-on's providing an amazing product tool being completely crippled, and for what?

    Because Firefox is our main productivity tool that they have decided to break or cripple over the last year leading up to putting it to death for us with Firefox 57. Since I have been going through this over the last year I am not seeing add-on's we use updated to work with newer versions of Firefox. So your post is woefully inaccurate.

    This would not be an issue if the American people would demand the anti-trust laws be enforced and companies like Alphabet broken up into pieces. The fools that continue to buy into bogus marketing like "do no evil" are part of the problem for not seeking alternatives.

    Ripple can do 1000 transactions per second, it's market cap makes it the third largest crytpo and it is supported by international banks. No doubt that is where investors will be headed after pulling out of BTC, BCC and Ethereum.

    When an engineer has to make the software case for a project with management types in a conference room an engineer will pick software where they are not going to end up getting tied up debating the unprofessional presentation of the software company or any related mascot controversy.

    If most people use something else, how long do you think freebsd will be around?

    True. Linux Tux-Penguin that came up a few times in this discussion but the thing is none of the major Linux distributions use the old mascots and have professional looking websites-logos. This combined with Linux more widespread adoption - marketshare, corporate sponsorship and enterprise solutions. Yet Freebsd at a major disadvantage against Linux in that respect sticks with this logo fiasco.

    Some people want to keep Freebsd a small niche it seems and kill the messenger on this point about how they are perceived.

    I guess you are young and are new to Freebsd since this has come up time and time again. In fact there was a contest to replace it back in 2005.

    I have also been taken to task by a VP at a large national company over it even though I had not deployed it on any of our servers. I was warned that if I ever did my ass would be fired.

    Nothing ever changes with the Freebsd fanboys denying it has been a problem for people and it's widespread adoption since the 90s. Instead they just attack and insult people pointing out the obvious all these years.

    1. Pitching an operating system for critical systems and data that uses a childish looking and potentially nefarious mascot in the corporate world != having a mascot at an entertainment-sporting event.

    2. If you want people to contribute and have widespread adoption for the OS in the future you do not insult your user base or drive off potential users by using a mascot that looks like your OS is intended for nefarious purposes, kid hackers or is demonic.

    Any data breach or failure of a server or system within a company, you can just imagine the looks of management when they discover you chose to use an operating system with a demon mascot on it.

    2017 and they still will not abandon that controversial idiotic cartoon mascot. I suspect there would have been far wider adoption without it, especially these last few years as a systemd free alternative. The mascot raises all kinds of questions for people. Rather than having people focus on the benefits of the OS the first thing they see is the mascot and thus the OS is dead to them before they go any further.

    Saying you are going to store corporate data or any data for that matter on a system that looks like it is intended for use by kid hackers for nefarious demonic purposes is an obvious red flag for people. It screams not for business or adult use or Christian use. For that decision alone that OS deserves to go down in flames. No pun intended.

    Looks like they had a chance to remedy that in 2005 and botched it. No doubt they will stick their guns and the OS will be eventually be gone in a few years.

    Without your support sites like Newslookup.com will not be around and that stripped down garbage that is now Google News is all that will be left.

    I second that. I put it on the next line but always feel I am an outlier doing so. I do it because for me it is much easier to read the code that way and it is cleaner.

    Exactly. Criticism of the policy will and is being censored so they can push the false narrative that the majority of people are for it.

    Anecdotal, but I am seeing that kind of censorship of my tweets showing concern for Googles new fake news tool on Twitter. My tweets still exist under the news publishers that reported on Google. However all my tweets criticizing Google have disappeared from Twitter search that did appear in search all day today. Although I still see them when I login and search, so effectively a shadow ban.

    Seems like things are going backwards in favor of the cable providers. I spend most of my viewing time on watching Netflix, Amazon Prime and various other channels available on multiple Roku's I own. So it looked so promising that I would be cord cutting with my multiple Roku's. But then Roku went full retard with their firmware updates making my boxes unstable and many channels completely unusable. It seems like all channel development and support from the providers stopped as well.

    So okay I figured they screwed my Roku boxes so lets look at alternatives and they did not look as good as Roku. So ultimately ny old cable TV boxes are now far more impressive and stable compared to cord cutting solutions. This not to mention the hoops I had to jump through to add each channel to each Roku box. Sling was a consideration but a subscription for each box forget about it.

    Yep, sure looks like we have gone backwards as far as cord cutting.

    I am now happy they did. I had been with FF since the beginning but they turned into a slow anti-privacy memory hog. I get the feeling they are producing the browser for themselves and not for the end users. Kind of like a bunch of kid developers saying hey Mom look what I just made with no care in the world about the ramifications of the changes to performance and productivity.

    With each FF update I ended up with a time consuming list I had to go through in about:config and installing classic theme restorer, among many other things. This all just to get the browser back to where it used to be. But these last few updates broke some of my add-ons including Firebug and Firepath leaving no real solution in the developer edition replacement.

    So that was it and forced me into using Pale Moon full time. Oh what a difference. I now have what looks like the normal Firefox, without the memory or performance issues and all my Firefox add-ons work. More importantly the interruption to work flow problem solved. This was all done with very little effort. The Palemoon updates also did not break anything or cause any issues or problems in work flow.

    Good job Palemoon team.
