Stupid, evil people use stupid evil applications. And so do intelligent, well meaning people... mostly because they are forced to do so by their workplace.
Please, remember to share all those DVDs with your friends... in fact, why not form "buying clubs" where each member obtains a different set of DVDs, then every week they pass them on to another member? And while we're at it, lets do this with movies, CDs, and games too!
No. If they were using Open Office to sue Linux companies, that would be ironic. The fact that they are using MS-Word just proves that they don't eat their own dog food -- perhaps they find Unix distasteful.
Yes, but I should be allowed to confiscate any radio signals beamed through my body without my permission, regardless of how it is encrypted. The open airwaves have traditionally be considered fair game for anybody to receive and do what they please with. With cable TV it is different, as you have to sign a contract before connecting to the cable as a distribution method, and therefore may be held to whatever restrictions you agree to in said contract. Likewise, with Satellite, you may have to sign a contract to lease the Satellite companies equipment. But if you are using your own receiver, how can the company broadcasting the signal tell you what to do with it?
My sister claims Banjos are now commanding upwards of $80,000 from Japanese collectors... go figure! Personally, I think owning an instrument with great tone without playing it or even knowing how to play it well is a sin. I couldn't understand why used Martin's sold for $3000-$3500 in music shops until I picked one up and played it -- it was worth the price! But yes, sometimes inexpensive, no-name intstruments can also have decent tone, seemingly by accident. My $135 Fender 12-string sounded great; since I never played it I gave it to a friend who could make better use of it... I occaisionally still regret giving it away.
Why do most slashdotters assume that just b/c you have an MBA you must be some evil hell bent individual? Because we've actually met and worked with MBAs long enough to get to really know them, and have found few that don't fit this stereotype? Like the guy that sat on his ass for a year drawing a six figure salary because "you don't have a product for me to sell yet." Or the ex-IBM manager that thought forcing all the Unix programmers out and replacing them with kids fresh out of school at lower wages was the best way to get a product out the door, because after all people are just replacable pieces like machine tools, right? Or the guy who spent all his time hitting on the cute programmer 20 years his junior in the cubicle next to mine (yes, he was married). Or the guy whose idea of making a requirements document was to look at every competitors product, then insist that we implement the union of all our competitor's features... this same guy took code where somebody had busted his ass to meet his spec in the shortest time possible, and when it was given to him said "we've changed our mind, do it this way instead..." Three times in a row. For the same feature. Yep, we've got a low opinion of MBAs 'cause we've actually known some of them... which is not to say that their all bad.
No, hand made guitars have a maximum sales value of about $3000. That sounds like a lot of money, but how much of it goes to material (mother of pearl inlays, etc.) and how many hours goes into getting one of these perfect? Trust me, when you break it down, it's nowhere near the hourly wage you could get doing software development. I'll grant you that if you are really good, you may be making more than minimum wage.
If by "mean age" you mean the age at which people start to become irritable for no reason, you may be correct. If you mean the age that half of the people are younger than and half are older than, that is closer to 42.
As SCO has shown us, when you can't make money by producing useful products, you can always make money by suing people. Wouldn't they have to actually collect some of that money to show us that? Lawyering 101: don't sue anybody that doesn't have enough money to make it worthwhile. I once got sued for $500,000. I drove to court in my old, beat up motorhome, showed to the plaintiff's lawyer, told him "See that? I live in that. It's my only asset. You can try to take it away from me, but I owe far more on it than it's currently worth. Oh, and sorry I don't have a permanent address you can send summons too, or a job that you can garnish wages from." For some reason, he advised his client to drop the case...
Does anyone have a REAL reason for needing a big tower/desktop these days? Does anyone have a REAL reason to do case mods? To paraphrase Batman: "It's the computer... Chicks dig the computer!"
The iMac did very well in the marketplace, for precisely that reason; 95% of computer buyers DON'T WANT to mess with their computer -- ever! For some people, plugging in the monitor to the CPU is too complicated. Asking slashdotters what computer hardware will be popular is like asking a NASCAR driver what kind of car they like to drive - their answers are in no way related to those of the general population.
Why are these better than a notebook? This thing appears to be put together out of notebook parts, but doesn't fold up, so it doesn't appear very portable. Can't I get notebook with better features for the same price?
Obviously about the conspiracy IBM engaged in to put SCO out of business by stealing their IP and adding it to Linux -- or at least thats how Darl envisioned it in one of his crack-pipe induced hallucinations...
Have you sat down to compute what your net wages per hour of labor put it are? My friend is an unemployed software engineer who makes beautiful furniture for himself. But if you calculate the market value of the pieces divided by the amount of time it takes to custom build furniture, he's making less than minimum wage. Simular to when I worked as a Java instructor, thinking I'd just put in my 8 hours a week for $10/hour... wrong! I spend an additional 12 hours a week preparing lectures, so effectively I was making less than minimum wage! Sure, you wan't to make beautiful things for yourself for your own satisfaction, go ahead... but don't deludge yourself into thinking you can support your family doing while doing it.
I hear SCO is still looking for a CFO... you can make over $100k/year for a couple years, spend about 5 years in jail, then pay yourself $20k a year out of what's left after you pay your lawyers...
What factors would make you seriously consider leaving your current career for another? Ever since the Phoenicians invented money, there has only been one answer to that question...
I'm currently looking to change jobs for the satisfaction of actually making more then I spend every month! Yes, as a consultant, I've taken a 33% pay cut... but my expenses have continued to climb.
Stupid, evil people use stupid evil applications. And so do intelligent, well meaning people... mostly because they are forced to do so by their workplace.
You're new around these parts, aren't you?

Heck, that happens every time my wife walks into the room anyway...

Doesn't this just create a market for a device which alters the value of the broadcast flag in an HDTV data stream?

Actually, these are somewhat upgradable via the USB ports.

it looks somewhat like a high heel shoe from the side. My wife would buy it, based on that alone!

Find a job you love...
and you'll never work a day in your life...
after they outsource that job to India!

Amuse yourself for hours on end! Repeatedly trip the robot and watch it stand up again!
Yeah, but if it is not from Apple, it is just a psuedopod.
