I will get bashed since slashdot is linux fanboy heaven but this is my experience. Ubuntu will not become mainstream until most isntals work with no command line needed what so ever. i have tried ubuntu on my laptop and on a p3 450 hp comp and both required command line help to get the basic system working.
For system admins linux might be good but if 30 min of fiddling with the command line to just get the system working is needed then it will not become mainstream.
Also on that hp comp ubuntu takes n15 min to boot up. I am not lying. Xp on the same machine is much faster.I tried getting help on some linux boards and all I got were nasty replies.
So there is a lot of things that have to be done before linux becomes mainstream and really fights microsoft.
Go ahead and bash me all you want butthis is true.
Come on. The wii can make games with better graphics then resident evil 4 on the cube. Not 360 wise but better then the cube. On a standard def tv that should be good enough. HecK I am playing it on a 1080i 26 inch widescreen crt and I dont have a problem with the graphics.
The wii is cheap enough to buy it and a 360 together anyway. With games like brain age wii health, wii music, and wii sports coming out and out already for the wii it doesnt have the same user base as the other 2 consoles anyway.
Plus we all know that the wii is making a profit for nintendo already.
My theory is also that the wii was not meant to be a 5 year console anyway. I honestly think it was put out just to tide nitnendo over till they can come out with their real next console.
If the wii all of a sudden starts tanking nintendo wouldnt have lost any money .
I do have to say this. Nitnendo does know its stuff. They know hopw to make a profit and stay in business.
If you use wsus you would have nothing to worry about. Why complain? Just set a set time each day and the computers will download the updates themselves. yes it works for the office problems too. Plus its free.
IF developers would program their programs right we wouldnt have this problem. If they made something like a game install without having to be an admin then we wouldnt be having these problems.
By this I mean. Why does a game have to install registry files? Why cant they be stored in say an encrypted file in the games directory.
Even if microsoft changed to unix we would still have these problems because its the developers who refuse to change.
Developers should start doing things the right way and start making thier programs not have to be installed into system critical areas.
people keep lumping all the cablecompanies together.
Cablevision is already using docsis 2. They have 15/2 basic package and for about $60 a month or so there is the boos package wich is 30/5 speeds.Boost uses docsis2.0
Cablecompanies can compete with fios as shown with cablevision.
Well At my last job we had that many comps and I was the only one doing the job.
I think a System admin and a lower comp tech should be able to handle it just fine.
I dont know about your county and state but here on Long Island if you want a permanent position like that you would need to take a civil service test.
You would need to apply with the county for that position.
I am not sure about other states and counties though.
Thats probably driver problems. I have am using two dell comps with vista and an acer laptop with a pentium m and 1 gig of ram and all three dont have any problems with vista.
MY parents, both who are computer illiterate both like vista better then xp.
Your wrong. I tried installing ubuntu on a machine that can run windows xp easily without slow down. The machine was a p3 500 with 512 of ram and ubuntu ran extremely slow.
iwould have had to drop to the command line to make it faster.
Plus firefox wasnt working correctly either.
I still cant figure out why ubuntu runs so slow on this machine when xp runs great.
Also not all programs are compiled right and dont install properly on linux yet.
I know I will get bashed but I am not making anything up. This is from my experience with this ubuntu install.
Go price the cheapest pc that you can get from dell and then the cheapest PC that you can get from APPLE.
I am a Network tech at a library and all my computers are mainly used for patron s who use the itnernet and staff who use a program called millenium. We dont need high end computers.
So when I buy a new computer why would just need the cheapest one.
Cheapest I found on apples site with a 1 year plan was 1,168 and the cheapest dell is 379. Thats not even including the discounts we usually get from dell like 20 percent off.
Why should a company buy macs when they can cost $1000 dollars more then a regular pc.
Also there is more expense then just the computers alone. There is the expense of buying all new liscences for the programs that have mac counter parts. Then the cost of getting custom programs redone for the mac os.
If the t-1 is more then $1000 a month I can get a 10/10 fiber conenction right to my computer room for $1000 a month through lightpath.
I am hoping that t-1s now are under $1000
Not every t-1 is copper supplied.
Here at the library our t1 is fiber. We have Fiber connecting us to the verizon co. Then we have equipment that converts the fiber to 3 t-1's.
Cablevision up till they got their metro ethernet up was also doing t1's the same way via fiber.
I can get a 30/5 optimum online conenction that so far isnt capped for $60 dollars a month.
Microsoft knows unix. In the 90's they partnered weith a small company called proginet based on Long Island . They partnered to help windows machines talk to mainframes.
I dont know if they still ahve this partner ship or not.
Trust me though Microsoft knows unix even though they dont publically state it.

Everybody keps saying that linux would put Microsoft out of business. No it won't . I honestly think microsoft would do what apple did.
Linux would be the main part of windows and microsoft would make the user interface the standard windows one.
Sorry I didnt describe it right.
I can see microsoft doing that.
The Eu keeps fining microsoft these huge amounts of money . At what point do these fines equal up to more then what microsoft is getting from its cudtomersd there.
Even with microsoft, europe would be in serious trouble because it would take time to change over to linux.
A lot of amd fanboys here. PErformance wise intels latest chips are winning versus amds chips. Without an integrated memory controller.
Now intel will have that also. This means that amds only advantage they will lose. AMD needs something huge to stay in the game.
Also baiscally this news sounds like Intels Version of the Cell processor.(they stated configurable cores that each core can be set to do something else.)
He is right. Windows most of the time can be just rebooted or nuse a restore point. Linux if there is a rpoblem you have to type in commands.
A normal non pwoer user wont know what to do.
With my experience most small places atleast expect you to be able to do everything, from security to web programming to telephone systems and network config.
Unless you are going to a med or large company dont go to a specific field in it.
At med sized insurance company, here at the library, and at a software programming company I was expected to know hot to do everything.
Thats my experience.

I have seen a lot of reviews of movies that review movies that arent finished.

Would planting more trees and plants be a lot easier and cheaper to reduce the co2 ?

Imagine if amd starts making processors that can fit onto intel motherboards? That would be interesting :)
They are suing them because of the universal tabs bnot just the use in the web browser.

Well there havent been any good cd's for me to buy. The only one that ibought was daulghtry 9i think i spelled his name wrong).
YEah , you also forgot the redone network stack, better dual core handeling, and the redone sound stack.
