Exactly...
the only reason they couldnt charge that much was because they were selling them, had it been just a normal company document they could have charged the 100K as damages
Well figure this: since the botnet creator isnt being gone after when they ARE being destructive...
what is the chances they will come after you when you more than likely wouldnt be destructive (unless a freak accident)...
I would guess less than zero. they are not doing anything about the damage being done now...why would that changeif something went awry and causes some minor problems
The fact that the courts will never be involved is the key point, the system currently is doing nothing about the botnets to begin with and have no ambition to at this point. If they have no interest in it, they will not bother with you either.
Simply make up a number...
do it like the big corps do:
Yes, that infect 500 of our machines at $2000 a piece...
Hey it works everywhere else. you can easily bullshit like thtat and the FBI wont care or know as long as they get to be involved with a big money item like that.
AT&T tried to do that years back claiming a document that was secret cost like $100,000+ to produce (they included the entire years salary of the person to type it, the computer, the printer)
and I again say: WHO CARES?
cross the line for a moral good.
Just dont get caught and try not to cause anymore damage than the botnet host has already suffered.
They are running a botnet, screw them. they obvisousely didnt notice the botnet (and more than likely the huge amounts of spyware) so basically. I wouldnt feel guilty breaking a half functioning system.
in reality he probably pissed off his contact person at darpa, well because he has the personality of an asshole.
He tried to pretend anyone cares what he says. It wasnt some big conspiracy, hell if i was giving him money and he acted like he does, well it simply wouldnt be worth the headache.
As the creator of dilbert said, honestly, why would you want to look at those people, most likely they are ugly. That is why we will have Digital Representatives. Attractive looking characters to represent us.
in the world...
In actual particapants, volleyball is about three times the size.
and in viewership: formula one racing.

ahh yes the Nike lies pop up once again....
in reality. Nike did not own those factories (subcontractor that they nailed to the wall after it came to light)
In fact they had numerous civil right leaders as well as UN ambassadors verify the much better working conditions that were the standard and not the exception to Nike. All told, they could do more, however in reality there factories were never as bad as what was claimed
I havent bought a nike product in 10 years, but that is simply because i think they are overpriced and redicoulous looking
Yeah I didnt exactly get this blocking thing either...
hell the US doesnt block blatantly bad things like child porn...however it is illegal and can be prosecuted.
I personally dont see a problem with gambling online and dont see a need for the law, but the WTO shouldnt be able to stop a debateably bad thing (whether or not it is is immaterial)
Making something illegal and blocking things are different. Blocking anything is bad in my opinion, making something illegal is okay in certain extremely limited circumstances (ie child porn)
Ever consider they were trying to give congrats to the people that helped in this release.
Basically you are a KDE user who doesnt want anything to do with gnome (outside of bitching about it on slashdot)
why ?
Gates was never a real visionary. Excellent business man right from the very beginning but he never really had the visionary spirit.
It brings up the debated comment about memory, it is dumb to most people, but really it isnt that dumb of a comment, just a lack of vision in what could come next.
He knows business, not technology, he just happens to be in the tech business. He could have just as easily been in a different business and been very successful
Actually what you said was a suprise cause a lot of us never even thought of it that way, so it was an interesting read
but it brings up this possibility. Why not design malloc with different implementations designed for server vs desktop (two very different uses). The interfaces would be the same, and it could be kept that it would behave the same way however it would just be more efficient based on what you are doing.
Yes but then again, game companies dont wnat you trying out a game first and finding it sucks so you dont buy it.
they would rather you find out after you purchased it
And the layoffs are just to meet those outrageous expectations (and make certain people rich)
The late 90's was particularly funny in regards to the market. No one could comprehend that it wasnt going to last forever and were shocked when the huge stock increases came to a halt.
um most people EXPECT to know where a reviewed item can be purchased. It just makes sense.
it would be a crappy review if I wasnt even given the info of where the item is available.
not to mention the site offers some specs that an interested party would want after reading the review.
Who cares about the games? this card is simply meant for the majority of the world that doesnt play games.

Why not, the entire concept of the most investors in the stock market is based on that premise...which just means investors are idiots.
Yes yes, we get it. Slashdot isnt allowed to mention any company or product becuase then it will automatically be an advertisement.
