-- It's just like in C or C++. The developer has control of when he allocates and releases memory. What's the problem with this, giving the developer too much control? Aren't you fighting Apple for control when you jailbreak?
2) The runtime environment of the iPhone doesn't provide garbage collection.
Garbage collection is for pussies that don't know how to do it themselves.
3) When applications grab too much run, they are killed by the SO.
No. The OS sends a low memory warning so you have a chance to free up memory yourself.
Your attitude on coding is precisely the reason that most software is shitty and unusable. If you think that coding a good, user application requires minimal language requirements and no communication skills, than I pray to God that you are not a coder, nor do you manage coders, nor do you work for a company that produces software, nor do you have anything to do with the software industry.
Maybe noisy, clicky keyboards went away because the clickity clackity racket would drive all of the cubilcle dwelling techies INSANE!! I much prefer the quiet keyboards of today...even though I finally have an office.
Yeah. It's because of Sarbanes Oxley. With the phone they can say that the updgrade is incorporated in the monthly fee. But, since there is no recurring fee for the touch, they have to charge for the update.
Thank the accountants.
I couldn't agree more! When you see really amazing games on the iPhone like Zen Bound for $5, how can this developer expect to get $5 for a silly color matching game? If there weren't a ton of others like this for free or $0.99 I could understand, but that is not the case!
The dev needs a dose of reality and then needs to drop the price.
I think that the app store certainly offers choice and diversity!
If it's freedom you want, don't buy an Apple product! If you want it to "just work" then buy Apple!
Exactly. If this was classified, it would be on a classified network not attached to the internet. If it wasn't classified, you could probably get this data with a FOIA order anyway.
Clearly you don't play Chess, as chess is not a good example of a game with a smooth learning curve.
Chess is easy to learn and difficult to master, I'll give you that, but after learning the basic rules, there is some effort, and a steepening of the learning curve to learn basic tactics (pin, fork, etc.). Then, there is another steep jump in the curve to learn the strategy of the opening, middle, and endgames.
Even after learning the basics, most (more than casual) players find a barrier which they can't break through after a year or so of studying. That's when the curve gets very steep and it becomes difficult to rise to the level of master.
I just thought that you needed an explanation of what a learning curve was.
I found it interesting the the chroma key technology is not far enough along for fog/mud/whatever. Therefore, they had to have a second person in the computer room that was manually picking and choosing what to key out.
Very cool vid.
In the article, the spokeswoman for Vonage says,"They are taking a risk if they choose not to pay,"
Um, if they do pay, their money is already lost! I would take my chances with being sued in hopes that I could pay less than I would lose if I actually paid for that crappy stock!
I guess I'll be getting a Wii for the kid and myself to play after all. I am a gamer and all, but I have a family too. My wife will kick my balls in if I spend $600 on a friggen video game. I'll have to either get a Wii or wait until the PS3 forces the price of the 360 down in November.
1) Memory management in objective-c sucks.

I, for one, welcome our Rackable, Silicon Graphical, overlords.
Umm, I didn't bother to RTFA, but there is no Wyoming county in NJ.

It is not possible that Microsoft has put out a shoddy product. I don't believe it!

That sucks.
...you would have figured out that you could just call out sick, and you wouldn't have such a crappy job.
