  8. Well the original numpty was complaining that he's been hearing these predictions since the 1970s, so that seems like a decent starting point. Go ahead and plot that. Afterwards maybe go back to 1917 and see what the trend has been like over the last 100 years. And after you're done with that, follow the link on that page and have a look at the change in storm intensity over the years.

You know, have a look at as much data as you can, instead of cherry picking just the bits which confirm what you want to believe.

  9. Yep, of you cherry-pick a date range you like, you can indeed create a negative trend. Way to science, bro.

No, not necessarily. There are a lot of people out there who are just plain stupid. Alex Jones actually eats his own horse shit, for example.

Alex Jones is a bad example. In a court case a while back he basically stated that none of the stuff he says should be taken seriously because he's just an actor playing a character.

Now you can chock that down to just being a legal strategy to get him off the hook, but I think it's probably one of the only honest things he's ever said. I'm sure he believes some of the bullshit he spews, but I'm equally sure that there are a lot of things which he knows are bullshit but says them anyway because they play well with his fans.

I was with virgin until they got bought out by Bell. Within a year their website went to shit, their service got worse, and their prices started going up. So I left.

I use Fido now; though they're owned by Rogers and run over the same network, their prices are customer service reps are both far better than Rogers. As such I don't really care who they're owned by.

    Mining isn't separate from transactions.

There's no way to actually calculate a "per transaction" energy usage, so what they have done here is said "OK, the entire network uses X electricity per day, and on average there are Y transactions per day, therefore each transaction uses X/Y electricity."

Of course the reason the network uses so much electricity is that the vast majority of the machines on the network are competing to try and mine coins. Processing transactions is essentially just a side-business to them. Combine that with the fact that transaction volume is pretty low, and you end up with scary looking "house-days" numbers.
