as long as we don't run our force fields at full strength. The additional pressure on the magma could create enough pressure to cause an eruption. Even the ancients knew that...

"National security" are the words they need to use to push the courtroom proceedings from being judge/jury situation to a military tribunal. And of course if it's "in the interest of national security" then the information cannot get out because it will "jeopardize national security."
The parent mentions dictatorship. Here is a great article about the steps necessary to secure power in that fashion, and the author (Naomi Wolf) compares what has happened recently to other situations in the past.
* I've seen the SAME coffee brewed 3-4 days running, eventually creating a brown fluid only slightly resembling the intended substance.
Oh, the humanity...
As a graduate student in the sciences, I must add that coffee brewed 3-4 days running is fresh. The real abuse comes after the first week.
I think you are missing the bigger picture. The blame clearly falls on the shoulders of funding agencies.
Our scientists are using performance enhancing drugs like Ritalin. That means they are using cheap drugs and need better funding from the NIH, NSF, and others. Your average wallstreet businessman wouldn't make do with anything less than 100% pure Colombian cocaine. Clearly U.S. science will not be on par with its other markets until this imbalance is resolved. And I think the legislators will fix this problem if made aware.
And Iraq is being rebuilt in part by Halliburton--Cheney's old company. I know this is slightly off-topic, but it's important to note that the contacts often reflect the cronyism inherent in the system. And cronyism means that the bid is NOT for the best offer, and the bid is not exactly "won" necessarily.
Would the cost of a packet plummet? I would check your cable bill for TV by comparison or the cost of phone charges. The system would most likely be the same simply with different owners and profit-reapers.
And of course several species are going extinct. Will this finding change anything? Probably not once the blood has been well studied such that the components can be synthesized.
Here is a good link for you (http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/cnhc/csl.html) if you're interested in all the different species. I imagine that the differences in their immune systems would also be of some benefit.
I'm sure it's difficult, costly, time-consuming to do these surveys, but I imagine the type of game is key. They chose a relatively benign game for their study. If they had chosen a more stressful game, the results surely would be different. (F.E.A.R., Doom 3, etc.)
First-person shooters vs. RPG vs. strategy... they'll all have slightly different effects on average, and they'll all affect different personality types differently...
The point is that by choosing different types of games, it would show that not all games induce violent behavior even if they have some degree of violence.
Ditto. The Lynch version has a certain appeal in its wackiness. Of course it gets nowhere near covering the depth of the book, but it at least has an interesting way of presenting the material.
It may be advantageous for women to be unclear about their intentions because it maximizes their choices. There are several evolutionary benefits to this. Women ultimately want to choose the best mate because they will be stuck with that choice for a long time. Choosing the best mate maximizes the chance that their DNA will be passed down. Men want to maximize the passing down of their DNA, too. Since they were not stuck with their choice of mates (until recently), it may be advantageous to see every possible flirtation as a chance for success.
It's too bad that this situation is annoying as all hell sometimes. You would think that condoms and birth control would completely change the situation. Alas...
I must say I already dislike Apple for the fact that their products do not last long. iPods tend to crap out within two years. I've had to repair my own iPod (warrantee ran out) and had better luck than my friends with warrantees. I've noticed that even with the extended warrantee, it's more likely that the iPod repeatedly breaks anyways.
I've also seen similar problems with Apple laptops although my sample size is much smaller.
Cheers to Apple for making products that look good, but they could work on their durability and longevity. I get the feeling these failings are part of their business model.
Yes, but in this case moose are known to affect the development of mammary glands. It may not explain why Canadians have smaller mammary glands, but it's interesting.
To add to that, even among graduate students there is competition, and only when drinking do "bold" ideas get proposed and either laughed at or talked about. Several times my friends have noted how the solutions to their experimental roadblocks were discovered when drinking. However, perhaps if we got together and drank grape juice on a Friday night in a bar we'd still have the same ideas.
I imagine that alcohol will always correlate with failure to some degree for any discipline. Anyone who has time to drink could be spending the time better elsewhere, and those who take it too far are doomed to failure. Perhaps the chaps who drink a lot in the UK are numerous, but maybe the ones who do not drink outperform (and make up for) the ones who do.

You can break that easy with an overclocked TI-89.
