It is all about VOIP. The telcoms and cable companies want to wipe out Vonage and SKYPE. It cuts into their business and they think they have a way to kill them. It is not about Google, it is all about Phone service and Video on Demand that is not from the last mile provider.
Google dropped 10% today then rose back up to be down about 8% on the day. COnsidering is up over 150% in 1 year, thats not too bad.
It is trading at 45 times futures earnings and that is not too bad for a growth company. Microsoft used to trade and 50-100 times earnings not too long ago.
As far as assets, you obviuosly do not understand the market. Stocks trade on earnings and growth potential of those earnings( well they have done for abot 100 years execpt the late 1990s) and Google is making the cash. Not if in 10 year you see the internet as no longer here and people reading books or something like that, then they will be gone.

Novell's SuSe is almost all GPL code. Red Hat makes its money on support. And Ubuntu is backed by a billionaire, Mark Shuttlecock.

WHy bother with MS Office? I know it is a big standard around big business, but Open Office/Star Office can handle most things and displays most office docs. Google could help force the Open Document Standard down M$'s throat ( along with Mass. ).
Sun: forced to do Linux because Solaris was not used much on desktop; Biggest market is servers not desktops; Used it to promote Java; Linux server software has damaged Sun more than anything else!
Corel: was steps from going out of business and they came out with a weak effort and failed to port key applications to Native Linux( Corel Draw and Word Perfect )
Novell: NDS has been dying and the bought SuSE; Success story here; Their Linux sales are skyrocketing thanks the IBM

SO saying that these companies were drug down by Linux is like saying that Windows brought down WordPerfect and Lotus. When the mocved their products off of DOS they were drug down by their Windows ports not selling. Of course if they never did Window's ports they would have died just the same!
