surely before youtube there was the world wide web. how has youtube suddenly expanded audiences? admittedly its in video form now but this disinformation is not more widely spreadable than it was before youtube, when all you had to do was read and write this poisonous crap in HTML form.

wait i just realised, vista is rejecting my licence, claiming that it has been subject to an "unauthorised change" so i think i should just reactivate it after installation. also i cant run anything under vista as i'm locked out so i couldn't run that app anyway. i think the trouble was caused by comodo3 being overzealous when i ran genuine advantage, so i might just reboot in safe mode and uninstall comodo as per the suggestion on the knowledgebase article attached to this bug.

i got erroneously locked out of my new laptop because of this. does this mean it will unlock? i think not. (but hope so). luckily i dual boot ubuntu so MS can kiss my ass. the only reason i kept the vista install is because it's legit and i have no setup disc to reinstall it later. i rather foolishly followed these links just out of morbid curiosity (i knew it was spam but i thought ff2.0.0.11, adblock plus, noscript, cookiesafe, avg, spybot, spywareblaster, OpenDNS, comodo2 would protect me) and it managed to lock up firefox to the point that i could close it by clicking the close window icon, but the process was stuck running. i killed it in taskmanager and am running avg and spybot checks now but just thought i'd warn anyone who thinks they're invincible to malformed websites that this one might still get through. it might just be conicidence but just thought i'd warn you.

yeah and mp3 sounds like the name of a machine gun and google sounds like some kind of testicular deformity and wii sounds like piss and so on and so on and so on. once initially stupid names become associated with something that isnt stupid, they stop sounding stupid. in the same way that politically correct euphemisms eventually have to be refreshed with new euphemisms because the old ones just take on all the negative baggage of the concept they are labelling, like spastic, coloureds, etc

yeah but it's a false dichotomy. so there's a distribution that idiots can use. that doesnt impact anyone who wants a distro that idiots can't use. that's the beauty of software freedom. you can have your cake and eat it.

and linux isnt "bloated". linux is the kernel. individual distros maybe considered "bloated" by people who want a stripped down single purpose box but there is absolutely NOTHING stopping these people from simply using a distro that exhibits that property.

i find that setting funny to -2 or whatever eliminates a lot of shit, even if i do then miss out on the occasional genuinely funny remark. the thing is 80% of the time "funny" on slashdot means the mindless regurgitation of some unfunny meme like "in soviet russia" or "hot grits".

filtering all this stuff down like this is fine for me because i only read the slashdot discussion for insights on the article, rather than for comedic value, and i'd rather lose the odd useful comment here and there than have to wade through the 80% shit every day.
