  10. blocking a host of foreign websites including Google, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

I learned that there is a difference between mobile and local ISP's in this blockade. When visiting a couple of weeks ago I could access all of these websites with good speed on my phone connected to China Telecom. When connected to the local ISP they were blocked.

    1) Better pricing when there are lots of dealers in your location. Bad pricing when there few. 2) Manufactures gain free distribution channel that they would otherwise have to pay for themselves.

All I see is a non-efficient layer that extracts profits by jacking up prices.

  13. Personally I'd rather be driving the car than sitting there prepared to take over just in case something goes wrong. Until I'm not needed at all for driving, I'll keep the control thank you.

I've been on call for IT support at conferences where there is a high probability that something will go wrong as the tech is in the hands of promotional staff. You're on pins and needles the whole time. Anytime your phone makes a noise the adrenaline starts pumping. It was a much better feeling supporting the same tech when I was acting as the promotional staff, but I really did grow tired of standing all day.

And when reading the Discussion portion of their results:

This study shows that although per capita health care costs for smokers are higher than those of nonsmokers, a nonsmoking population would have higher health care costs than the current mixed population of smokers and nonsmokers. Yet given a short enough period of follow-up and a high enough discount rate, it would be economically attractive to eliminate smoking.

And and at the end of that discussion:

Since we as a society are clearly willing to spend money on added years of life and on healthier years, the method of choice in evaluating medical interventions is cost-effectiveness analysis, which yields costs per year of life gained. Decision makers then implement the interventions that yield the highest return in health for the budget.28 We have no doubt that an effective antismoking policy fits the bill.

Microsoft says that since those clients are little used and since almost every user of those platforms has other Skype-capable devices available, it is no longer worth continuing to support them.

Another reason for segregating features from key components such as displays and vehicles. If Microsoft said those things it would be kind of a low blow considering developers would likely say the same about some of their past (Zune, WinRT) and current (Win Phone) devices.
