Most states your right to vote is reinstated automatically as soon as your sentence is served completely. this includes probation. In the rest of the states, you have to fill out paperwork to get the vote back. And, no state can remove your right to vote for conviction in another state. So even if you do live in one of the KKK states (The laws were pushed by the KKK to try and reduce black votes), just move and you can vote in your new state.

The massive expenditures in political advertisement, pundits to spread lies and half-truths, and blatant control of all of the news sources makes this downright easy to do. The internet is making a small but growing subset of people that seek the actual facts in political claims. The problem is our vote is miniscule, and we have no influence on who runs.
Money in politics coupled with the first-past-the-post system makes this a very very effective way to control the government if you have the money.

Comparing prohibition to reasonable gun control is dishonest. Prohibition is the exact opposite of reasonable controls. Reasonable gun control is not about banning guns. It never has been. It is about reasonable laws for safety. You have several violent crimes on your record? Maybe you should not be allowed to buy that grandfathered full auto UZI. This is reasonable. That Mac Book Pro runs the same hardware as any other laptop, at three times the price. You paid an extra $1000 for the OS, then wiped the OS to install Linux. That is a special level of duped.
I have a few VM images of crappy insecure Windows installs I use for training. I have one that has every virus I can find on it. I moved a copy of every infected payload file to a folder on the desktop labelled "Financial Records" in the hopes that someday they will call me. So far they have not cooperated on this.
