I believe that postings of lyrics (and TABS) increase music sales.
In a way, they act like ads. You want to know what the lyrics are, and you want to know how to play them on a musical instrument. Once you find the lyrics and/or tabs you are more likely to cough up a $1 on iTunes to get the song.
I just want to know something... *WHO* is going to pay for lyrics? Cover bands? right.
