  1. R&D on IT's Big Spenders · · Score: 0, Troll

Correct me if I'm wrong... but, to me, Research and Development when used together kind of imply creating something new. Meaning that you research an idea and develop a solution. I'm not sure that researching somebody elses solution and then implementing a solution that is the same solution that you researched qualifies for R&D. Research yes, development... Therefore, I disqaulify MS from the list.

I'm not sure if it was so much a software (OS) limit rather than a hardware one. I.e. 2^32 is where the 4GB address space (limit) came from, not because MS decided to be mean (for once). Sure, there are ways to get around the hardware "limitation" in software but there was probably not much incentive at the time to do so.

The problem is--and I bet I'm not the only one wondering this--is that (from the summary) this doesn't seem like a one-off thing. It appears that the (C) violations have been occuring in the past and the poster has recieved previous warnings. So, in that case it's not a "mistake". The only "mistake" is that the poster thought that he/she could get away with using copyrighted material.

Linus, like Bill, is great at selling a product and motivating others to do the work. The only real difference is that Bill wanted to cash in. BTW I am not a WindowsFanBoi; I am typing this on a Fedora box and avoid MS products with a passion. If anything, Bill IS a whiz because he managed to fool almost the entire world.
