All it is is data mining packets from skype nodes and comparing them to open torrent peer lists. This is not really surprising or scary to me. There are other 'researchers' who can link alot more data to you then this.
I love how people here take his side..but he was SELLING his service of circumventing disk protection. If he was not selling the service I would have supported him too. I would still say no more then 6 months jail time and maybe a stiffer fine however...
Optimum online, and Verizon internet services in my area have been doing this for awhile. You're telling me this isn't business as usual? I get that the opt out method is pretty stupid, but at least they have an opt out option.
I'm the same way. Although Songza is terrible. You're better off going right to imeem or I use grooveshark.com which seems to find things the others do not.
Seems to say that terrestrial radio already pays the Songwriters huh? Those are the people I want my money going to anyway..Not a record exec who is going to spend it on the next craptastic pop album.
I use Pandora about 8 hours per day. Mainly when I'm at work. Although I really wouldn't mind paying $.99c for 3 more weeks of this service, I can't really see myself doing it.
Honestly, I've worked for a US Senator they really don't care. Not when their seats aren't in jeopardy. When you call or write to them they rarely see any of that. Someone else usually does it and let's the Senator know what people think.
That being said I did voice my concerns via her email contact on her web page.
People with out any knowledge of computers will believe anything they're told. Which is why this woman was talked into Ubuntu, as well as why she thought she needed the disc. Verizon says you NEED it.
These lawsuits will be very different from those in the past. Torrent spy and Isohunt both do not host any files of thier own, as they are just indexes of torrent trackers (which hold the actual data to where the file is located).
The difference here is that Lokitorrent, or suprnova even were both hosting the torrent files themselves.
I remember reading a story here on slashdot that the MPAA was forcing Bram Cohen, (the creator of bittorrent) to remove his search engine from his http://bittorrent.com/site. This was due to the fact that Bram's search engine listed copyrighted materials. What's interesting that that if you go to Bram's site now, and search for say "Metallica" you will find files from amoung other sites, "torrentbox.com". Cohen seems to be getting away with what isohunt and torrentspy are doing quite well.
It's great that google realizes that programs need to be ported to linux, however hopefully you don't need to use codeweavers software to use it. Or wine even, I don't want to have to install wine myself to use this, it would be nice if Google wrapped winelib in with Picassa. (which they most likely should).
No one is going to bother to pirate mp3's downloaded from itunes, or some other mp3 downloading site. The quality lacks tremendously, and it is much better to buy the cd and rip the tracks to your hard drive yourself. (My preference is FLAC)
And I'm quite sure that pirates would do the same, the only people who this would be catching are people who really don't know what they're doing.

I can't believe anyone supports the WBC. I can't wait to picket this c**t's funeral.
Dvd players with this same capability so you may finally be charged correctly for the number of people viewing their fine films.

WEP is soo hard to break into.
Agility. =x
It's quite easy to bypass a filter like this. The offender could opt in for the free protection while tunneling in his encrypted files.
That's pretty scary. I love how they use the same child porn line to justify keeping all text messages and phone records for a year too.

I don't understand why changing software on your computer would violate the warranty on your hardware.
But is that taxing, or just overcharging?
Unless the mass mailers are in fact, other AOL users.
