I never said that sex was dirty, evil, or sinful. All I said was that porn objectifies people. The difference is that when I go to the checkout counter at a Super Walmart, or Wendy's, I can still look those people in the eye and smile at them because they are a person. When I see a pornographic image, it's not, "Hey, that's a nice person." It's, "Check out the rack on that one!"
... is that it reduces all parties involved to being nothing more than meat. Where is the person? I have a girlfriend who lives 3 states away, and I only get to see her every other weekend or so. We have been sexually active, and as such, it's more difficult when I can't see her as often as I'd like. Do I go looking up porn? Not at all... Heck, when I'm that randy and can't get it out of my system, I just call her up and talk dirty to her.
Anyway, my point is that people become sex objects when used in porn, and that's unavoidable really. You might as well be classifying them in the same genre as sex toys... When I start feeling desirous for the love of my life, it's because she's the love of my life, not because I've seen her naked.
Unfortunately, that would be impossible unless it was a vendor import in CVS. When you have an odd number of dots (periods) in a version number, it denotes a branch, and branch numbers are always even numbered. 1.3.37 would be a branch number, and would have to have been a vendor import.
Even version 1.3.3.7 would still have to be a vendor import, because that would be branch 1.3.3.
Have you read The Silmarillion? It allows you to think about the entire world that Tolkien created in terms of it actually being a fantasy world. It got me thinking about the way the histories of the dwarves and men and elves all interacted and came to a not-so-final clincher at the end of The Return of the King.
What bothers me is that people will look at the Lord of the Rings trilogy without examining the world of Middle Earth that Tolkien created. How did Shelob come to exist? Why were the elves leaving Middle Earth? Where did Sauron come from? All of those questions are addressed, just not in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. You can't just think about those three books without tempering the thought with the background and depth around them.
Lord of the Rings did not jump the shark. Let's be specific here... the Toronto playhouse's vision of LOTR is what is lacking here... JRR Tolkien wrote a masterpiece of literature, and any interpretation of that literature is what should be examined, not the literature itself.
Shenanigans? Yes, I think so. I am certain that changing operating systems to Windows XP from Windows 2000 would not decrease your frame rate by 60%... Did you decrease your RAM? Did you install lots more programs? Do you have memory intensive apps running now that weren't running before?
Before we ge the whole picture, it's all a load of bull crap.
that you were "SOL" looking up what SLI was... then you tried to "RTFA" but the website was "NFG." I'm glad your high school required you to use the "Full English Version" or FEV the first time it was used in an essay. It really helped you.
Eh well, the Dreamcast was a bit of a flop from the get-go. Sure Sega had the Genesis to springboard from, but I think we can all agree that the XBox is a lot better of a platform to launch a "sequel" from than the Genesis was...
I don't know about Nintendo dropping off the radar... The fact that the Revolution will have a game catalog that includes every Nintendo release from every Nintendo console ever made will attract those grown-up, non-Japanese game players.
The fact that you haven't considered buying a Nintendo product in 10 years is exactly why they decided to make this available I would think.
With Microsoft releasing the XBox 360 as early as they did (relatively), Sony is really fighting an uphill battle here. Whether or not the PS3 is better than the 360, the "next-gen" war is already heavily favored to those who actually make their products available.
Sure there are some Sony fanboys who would refuse to buy Microsoft products I'm sure, but then factor in the Nintendo Revolution release later this year and well... I just don't see how they can really expect to win major market share with this platform.
That's not true at all.

I work for a government contracting company in which business can be volatile if we lose a contract. For instance, I was slated to work on a massive $300 million contract 2 years ago, but we lost it to Lockheed Martin. A lot of people thought they would lose their jobs, but the company has an internal research and development (IRAD) budget, so everyone was moved to research until permanent spots could be found. I was bounced between two different IRADs before I was placed on an actual contract last December. If it was all about the finances, the company would have laid me off, but they kept me on the payroll for almost 2 years on a project that meant $0 in revenue.
I'm sorry you've had bad experiences with loyalty and employers... But I beg to differ with you.
I'm just stating my opinion here, but it's talking about living life from the wrong end of the spectrum. For one things, one of the first things that came to my mind when I read it was, "Get a freakin life!!" If a person is so concerned about what will happen to them after they die, then they should really re-evaluate the way they live. I live my life in such a way that if I had to be replaced because of death, people wouldn't think, "Oh I wish he had left us the password to his computer so we could get his source code." More importantly though, I don't sit around thinking of ways that I can make my passing invisible to most people around me. But then again, I don't have cancer...
I have nothing against the author of the article, I just disagree completely with the validity of the argument's origin. Who cares whether you're going to die or not, you should do those things regardless.
I learned on VB6 a long time ago, and now I am a Java developer. It took me a bit to finally get over my VB tendencies and move to an OO language, but once I did, I was no worse for wear. And, I have been able to write numerous automation tasks regarding Microsoft Access, Excel, and PowerPoint that I would have never been able to write unless I knew VB. There's no way I'm going to write some COM bridge so I can access the Win32 API relating to Microsoft Office... no freakin way- not when I can just fire up VB and say
In my experiences with using a cell phone over long distances (distances greater than 500 miles), I have never experienced any lag in conversations. Why are cell phones any different than anything else?
Of course, it's because when talking about networking, there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of routers that informations ends up passing through before you end up receiving data. Conversations via cell phone only have to travel through a handful of major routing areas before the data ends up getting from point A to point B. If the entire networking scheme of the internet itself was re-routed, I'm sure most lag issues in online games could be eradicated. But of course, who's going to want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to reinvent the wheel?
I'm sure most companies don't care that he's providing old versions on his website. After all, those versions (in the mind of the companies) are all outdated and obfuscated, and if a user really wants to subject themselves to using such a "crappy" version, then they should feel free. Besides, TFA even says that he's only been asked to remove 2 programs from the site, and he complied both times.
There's a part of the movie when Elliot Carver is having a teleconference with his underlings, and one of the questions he asks is:
Elliot Carver: "How about our new software?"
Underling: "We are releasing on schedule. As requested, it is full of bugs, and users will be forced to keep upgrading for years."
From TFA:
He said the situation left him feeling drained of energy, and that he let himself go and no longer lifted weights to keep fit.
Uhh... I don't really recall him looking all that "fit" in the videos I've seen. Perhaps I'm remembering incorrectly though.
I think I would be extremely nervous riding on the back of someone who was wearing a battery powered machine in freezing cold temperatures...
"Uhh, hold on here, my HAL is frozen solid."
Or...
"Uh oh, my HAL is out of juice... I guess you're rolling back down."

Haha, that makes me think of a Family Guy episode I saw where the usual group of guys is watching TV.
TV: "Next week on Deadwood." Camera pans to two cowboys looking at porno magazines...
Cowboy 1: "Anything yet?"
Cowboy 2: "Nope, nothin' yet."
TV: "Stay tuned!"
That happened a long time ago... it was called Prohibition.

If some guy spends 6-8 hours a day on the computer playing WoW, he certainly is going to have relationship problems.
You're assuming that his wife/significant other does not play WoW.

Greg,
Do you believe that open source projects should always remain in the public domain- ie. that no open source projects should turn commercial?

One question I have is whether or not Microsoft included code in their Office suite that would run faster on Intel processors...
That would definitely matter to those types of companies.
Eh well, the Dreamcast was a bit of a flop from the get-go. Sure Sega had the Genesis to springboard from, but I think we can all agree that the XBox is a lot better of a platform to launch a "sequel" from than the Genesis was...
