By installing Windows, IT managers and execs need only the 800-number lifeline versus paying a IT professional to manage an open source-based system. I have seen too many times a Unix system replaced with x86s running Wintel and employees shown the door immediately afterwards.
Canning people does wonders for taxes, social security matching, paying into insurance plans, etc.
Microsoft says people are not a good investment.
The reason is obvious...Apple is like Sun Microsystems, it is a hardware company and most of its revenue comes from its hardware sales. Software is a much smaller portion of its sales.
If OS X is open-ported to other platforms, no one will want to buy Apple hardware since it is overpriced as hell. There is also a business paradigm that would have to be overcome.
Essentially, Apple would have to start supporting all kinds of hardware like M$ currently does and that is a position Apple would eventually lose at. M$ would crunch Apple in a matter of months.
What really concerns me about all of this DMCA crap is do I really own what I purchase to do with what I please? According to the pro-DMCA jokers, I do not.
Apple needs to realize that regardless of all of its pandering of being the PC-alternative, it is just a Sun Microsystems with a smaller budget and different hardware. I have got 2 Ultra 30s (came out in 1997) that run rings around anything Apple has ever put out up to today. A G5 is a 2-cycle lawn mower engine by comparison.
I guess the real question is why should we waste our time porting OS X non apple hardware with Linux available? Porting Linux to apple hardware is more important that porting a commerical OS.
VM environments are much more of value anyway. It would be nice for M$ to built in support for OS X for its Virtual Server product, or VMware.
I do give Apple credit for using Unix as a backend. It is regretable M$ did not do it first with NT.
I for one probably am not alone when I say I neither trust nor believe anything the Emperor or his minions say. Hamas winning is a prime example of US foreign policy at it's worst. All of the leftist governments in South America taking over is another fine example.
How does a propaganda machine supposed to work if they cannot control all media outlets. Yes, the US government controls the US and Iraqi media, but the Europeans know the US is full of it and report accordingly.
Everything touched by the government either dies or runs away.
I would run if I had a place to run to.
80% of the ATM machines in North America are running OS/2 right now. I'd call that one hell of an install base. I know this becuase my company does remote IT support for several banks, including one that plans to be the largest financial institution by the end of 2007.
In that bank, a civil war is being fought between the Wintel and Unix/Linux side to decide what these ATM machines will run when IBM drops support.
I do not know about you, but it scares the crap out of me to put in my ATM card and the next thing I see is a blue screen. That is when Mr. Crowbar will have to take over.
Nothing...all of these "czars" are there just to make people feel all warm and fuzzy just before they get the crap knocked out of them.
For example:
War on Drugs: more drugs
War on Illiteracy: higher drop out rates, lowest test scores in the 1st world
War on Poverty: more people unemployed during Bush II than any other time in US history
War on Terrorism: Likely the end of US as we know it.
Every "war on" anything has proven to do two things: increase taxes on the average person and never acutally achieve any of the goals of "war on" sets out to do. Not to mention US foreign policy (since Nixon created the War on Drugs), more people have been killed than by Cancer and Heart Disease combined since numbers were recorded.
The coming censorship and likely jailing of those on Myspace once again shows a "do as I say, not as I do" political system.
For some odd reason, the neocons like to impose morals and values on the common people, while exempting themselves of course. With all of the pr()n, filth, hookups and what not at MySpace, that will likely get stopped and membership will drop like a rock.
Looks like a new vacuum has started to form and someone will need to fill it with a MySpace-replacement.
