Is anyone really surprised? There are people out there who still don't believe that Dad's Army was an early example of reality TV. Government competence levels have not improved in the ensuing years.
PC Pro are a UK based magazine. I used to subscribe until about 1997 when the pro-Microsoft bias got too galling.
Strangely they've just rung me up asking of I want to try out a new subscription. The answer is no, always will be from now on, I prefer my reporting with a lot less bias. This is why I rely on/. for all my IT news.
Thanks for the polemic, but did you actually _read_ the article (this is Slashdot WHAT am I thinking). Somewhere around paragraph 3 the measure that you're using is mentioned. The very next paragraph says "But the NBER's dating committee uses broader and more precise measures".
Whilst I'll congratulate you on super twat-o-thon spewage I do have to ask - how much did you pay for the upgrade?

I'm not sure that I can happily class myself as a hard-core gamer but what I've wanted to play I've been able to. Doom 3 when the engine came out for Linux and the X2 to re-live the Computer Studies lessons spent skiving on Elite, courtesy of the nice folks at http://www.linuxgamepublishing.com/.
All this on Debian testing to so it can't be that hard if I can do it.

That's the first time I've ever seen anyone spell 'Japan' that way.

This statement has to assume an infinite availability of resources, which is not in fact the case. Resources (the one that count like water, food, etc. are not infinitely depletable and when we (as a planet) hit the limit of what's available, we started turning one person's gain into another persons loss.
Well that's pretty much what happened for me.
Went and read the article, checked out Real World Records, bought a CD by someone I'd never heard of. Went to another record label mentioned in the article that I've never heard of, will go back there and nose around (and probably buy some stuff) later.
Seems to work OK from where I'm sat.

Nick
