Does it bother you that the US govt increased domestic spying to keep you safe from the terrorists? Rather than: Does it bother you that the US govt increased domestic spying is keeping track of everything that you do?
Well, that's kinda the root of the problem right there: lots of people acknowledge the spying, but are convinced that the government would never abuse this power.
One of his chief themes has to do with confirmation bias. When people are favoring a course of action, the intended consequences of that course of action are very clear to them, sometimes even exaggerated. The unintended consequences tend to be fuzzy, or maybe even invisible.

School choice will let the Bible Nazis self-segregate (good), relieve their pressure on the public school system (good), and let freethinking parents self-segregate to appropriate schools (very good).
Or we could just kick religion out of the public school curriculum. Then the "Bible Nazis" can go to their own private schools, and pay for their religious training themselves.
Note: I will accept vouchers as long as schools have to meet certain curriculum standards for the vouchers to apply to them -- teaching real science is one of them.
I've never seen one in a place with less than 40k, and for a sizable one, the smallest I've seen is closer to 80k. Regular retailers are a dime a dozen, though...
If you want to figure out how much I'm charging, good luck
While you're figuring out what services I can afford, I'd like to do the same. I'm not exactly pleased at doctors who push all discussion of fees until after the treatment is done and the patient is already on the hook.
It is not government's job to act in "society's interest." Government's job is to protect individual rights. This proposed action would do the exact opposite.
So... GP says government should protect society. You say it should instead protect individuals.
Are these different sets of people or something?
Doesn't your reference to Google and the fact that they're supposedly getting into the telecom business (and possibly even alternative energy) suggest that it's possible for an "upstart" to get into the industry despite all hostility from existing firms?
Google has lots of money and infrastructure already in place/available, so "upstart" is a bit extreme. If I were getting into the telecom business, I'd be an upstart.
And let's not forget the courts' all-important function of deciding whether a defendant is guilty. If all they did was interpret laws, every case would be essentially a summary judgment.
Yes, to identify the car and its owner. Now explain how you know whether the person who's actually in control of the car at any given moment either is the owner or is someone else who has a license and is properly covered by the owner's insurance.

Systems like this just empower society to cut out the cancer and get on with more productive things like work, socialising, and being able to relax in a home that isn't stripped bare, burned down, or riddled with bullet holes.
So let's see what I've gained here. Able to get on with work? Nope, I could already do that. Socialising? Never had problems with that either. Able to relax at home? No, I could do that before too. And you can probably guess what three things my home isn't. So what else is there to gain? Just having the trains run on time?
Remind me why I should give up something to get what I've already got.
But it has to be argued (and agreed upon by the courts; how to prove things and so I'd really not know) that the names are so similar that the general public may be confused.
Well, that's hardly a stretch here. The public is confused, the politicians are confused, and even supposed experts are confused.
Indeed. The NCLB folks need to realize that if you only teach what the least capable students can learn, the class will only be taught what the least capable student can learn.
Unfortunately, both "300 Math" and "grade twelve" are meaningless descriptions to people who went to schools which did not use those terms to describe their curricula.

You know, I've heard of this, but every "proof of concept" I've seen was something like foo.mp3.app or bar.doc.app, so I'm still a little skeptical.
No, the famous Barnum quote is "There's a sucker born every minute." It still applies, though.

I'm pretty sure the result would really just be to drive a lot of web hosts out of Kentucky.

Ok, we can check antibiotics of the list.

How does reading the license plate tell you whether the driver has a license and proper insurance?
