Do elementary-school students really need laptops?

No, they don't. Computer have no positive effect on child brains, which develops using interactions with its environment. TVs and computers are a real threat to childs consciousness and intelligence. BTW, you may ask some Silicon Valley's gurus why they put their childs in technology free schools : http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/23/technology/at-waldorf-school-in-silicon-valley-technology-can-wait.html

What about the recent WHO alarm, then ? It's strange that when some studies find a correlation between phone use and cancer, almost immediately there's another one that shows the opposite.

HFCS can be found everywhere in food, I would like to know your numbers telling that its use has been declining. And I would also like to know how you define honey and HFCS-55 chemically. There's a lot of differences in the process to produce honey from flowers and corn syrup from... corn.

And who will have to prove that the supposed 80% scientists in the consensus are the "bottom" ones ? Should those "bottom" scientists be the ones who have no prize or celebrity ?

  6. Re:Correlation does not imply causation... on 1/3 of Amphibians Dying Out · · Score: 1

Your logic is flawed : dinosaurs died of environmental conditions that noone was able to change. Current global climate change exists because of our selfish and blind activity, and this is something we CAN change. If I take your logic, many humans died at Tchernobyl, due to a great sensitivity to radiations. Should we say, then, that we should have done nothing to protect these people ? BTW, doing nothing for our environment seems more and more dangerous for our proper survival (bees, mammals, trees, oceans, etc...). Do you have childs and think about their future ?

Is life all about "caring" about something ? Who cares about how you die and if you suffer ? When does this "care" feeling come to you conscience ? These ethical questions shouldn't be resolved that childish way.

I can't see anything being racist when it comes to criticize a political regime, not their people. Of course, this spacewalk is something great for the chinese in terms of technology and power. But I think that people are now educated to the fact that space is a great place for propaganda, and that lunar manned missions didn't give that much information about space, satellites or planets, but a lot more about who had to do it.

If those theories have been "debunked" so many times, why doesn't even a single media only talk about official conspiracy theories ? Why is there no independent investigation ? Many of the "debunked" theories I've seen are only based on hypothesis, nothing more, nothing less. Insulting people who doubt official conspiracy theories is not really fair. Doubt is science's own ground.

You are right, everything is already prepared for trying to have perfect, harmonious Olympics... But since last week and all those events in Tibet, many athletes are starting to ask question whether they should boycott them or use this opportunity to express their opinion. I tend to be for the last, but it will be very dangerous for both sides (athletes and China).

  11. Re:craziness on China Blocks YouTube Over Tibet Videos · · Score: 2, Insightful

All of your explanation is made on the fact that the old system was bad, but then why didn't tibetan people asked for change ? Were they pleased when chinese army came through their borders to destroy their monasteries/culture and kill most of them without any diplomacy ? BTW, your comment about buddhisme is a great offense to people who have to deal with the occupation of their country for almost 50 years now. Most of the people who used violence were young people who are fed up with the Dalai Lama's "middle way" based on dialogue. Should we blame them ? Your last paragraph about throwing money to solve the problem is even more shocking : Do you mean that during WWII the germans would have won against french/english people just by throwing money at them ? Being free in your country has no price. And so much about Tibet which was always a part of China : China was once a part of Mongolia, should chinese give it back, then ?. History has a time line : when a country is independent from another, has a proper language, culture, rules, then you have no right to invade it if there was no threat.
