I disagree. I'm on my second programming job (been at current place almost five years, three years at the previous place) and both times I got hired by people with degrees even though I don't have one. There was also few job offers during this time that I refused. If you make it to the interview, degree doesn't matter. Skills, skills, skills. Don't forget those people skills too.
Please, why didn't they program it to kick Kramnik in the balls while at it. The heckling is really stupid and low. Human just won the match in my books.
You must be the one joking. I work as a programmer for one of the largest brokerage houses in the world. I just finished coding an app that is going to be used by a lot of important clients.
It is written in Perl, running on Apache, using
OpenSSL, etc, etc... Why were OpenSource products chosen? Because they allowed us to actually make the app. Nothing in the commercial world was good enough.
Why are questions like this posted? This is second question in the row that can be answered by reading documentation. Sorry, it's not that hard to read IPMasq HOWTO.
And most of them SUCK. I use linux, but I would really like ALL of those hot shot developers getting together for a couple of months and making ONE, just ONE distribution that works 100%. I am sick of everyone coming out with new distros. Stick it somewhere.
Stormix, Corel, Mandrake, RedHat, Slackware, Debian, SuSE etc., etc. there is like 30 of them.
And except maybe couple all of them are crap. Fix existing ones before making new ones. Make it so that if newbie wants to install new IRC program he can just click on the icon, and it's installed. Make it EASY. Out of 2 million newbies that installed linux this year maybe 10000-20000 will stick with it. The rest will go back to Windows because they are easier to use.
So, fix up one or two distros, and then make new ones. Clowns. Oh well, nobody reads this anyways. so I can go on...
I am a programmer, working in Toronto, Canada. Even though I have received offers to move to USA, I have stayed here. Reasons? Mostly cultural, plus I can choose between unlimited DSL or cable access for $39.95 CAD a month. hehehe
Toronto has a lots of computer companies, lots of work, pay is more than decent ( I make 3 times as much as average Canadian family, and I am single).
There is plenty to do if you like nature and sports, there is actual theater.
Universities of Toronto, Waterloo, Queens, Ryerson, McMaster are within 2 hours drive from downtown.
Important thing for a lot of non-NorthAmericans like me is multicultural factor, and I think no city beats T.O. when it comes to that. So, I will not be moving anywhere for a while.
If you are thinking about moving anywhere, check Toronto out, you will be surprised.
I was born clutching UNIX source code listing in my little hand. Never needed a manual, howto, or man page to do anything. I am UNIX. I need no stinking newbies installing linux just because it's cool. They try it, complain how hard it is, and give up. I gave up years of my life to UNIX/Linux. On irc.linux.com's #linuxhelp most questions are the same, day in and day out. The problem is, everyone wants instant answer and everyone is too lazy to RTFM. At work I get pestered so much with stupid questions about linux that I am sick of it.
Well, another one bites the dust. Maybe it'll come back up. Getting published on Slashdot is a mixed blessing. Everyone gets to hear about you, but only first lucky ones actually see your site.
If I was asked if I wanted to send my computer info to id, I would have said yes. But it did not ask me. I have a problem with that. I do not know what to think any more. So, we have idSOftware, Real Networks, Intell, Microsoft, etc.. doing it. And they all try to hide it. If none of this info is that important, why do they hide the fact they are collecting it?
I work for a bank in Canada, and the movie has stirred enough controversy that banks and utility companies have bought commercial time to broadcast how they are y2k ready... nice way to make money, nbc
I was just wondering, if AOL claims to be accessible to the blind, and it isn't? If AOL does not claim to be accessible, what's the deal? It is not accessible to a new immigrant from Romania who does not speak English either. Should he sue them? As for government agencies, if the only place where they provide information is on the Web, then they should be sued, not just by blind, but by everyone who doesn't have access to the Web. If WWW is just one of the many places where the info is published, that's too bad, use other source of info... And NYtimes servers are down again, so I cannot read the article... First post...
Water freezes when it's temperature drops to 273.13 degrees Kelvin. Then, as temperature drops, ice starts to change... At exactly 0 degrees Kelvin, water is at the same time a gas, liquid and solid substance.
But, freeze talked about here is about Debian's potato being frozen. So it has nothing to with water.
You're forgetting Nintendo's track record and the fact that Nintendo is the only one of the three actually making money on consoles and games.
GG reading comprehension.
Thanks for coming out though.
There is nothing wrong with saying what you think.
You are living a lie.

at least their site got /.ed...

All you Americans talking about TiVo and all us poor Canucks can do is dream...
I want one.

oh please, enough with Tom's Hardware. Why would anyone believe anything published on Tom's? It used to be a good site, long time ago.

Come on, USE A SEARCH ENGINE and stop wasting everyone's time with dumb questions. Who posted that on /. anyway? Cannot use Google?
lol
"Next release is going to be free, plus nobody wants linux."
Where is SCO now? The place Sun is headed to. hahaha
I hope SCO goes out of business. They have never produced anything innovative or usefull.

He does. Quentin is my idol.
