I'm glad the "big and the best" are aiming for thin but *wide* phones. It's the best compromise between a phone that is actually pocketable, and one which you can still actually use without a pointing stick.
As mobiles have to be everywhere with me, it's much more important to me that it fits in my jeans over taking pictures, and slicing bread.
I said, work which doesn't have to be "office work." It's not my fault if you can not think of an example for this situation.
I am a Astrophysics Researcher, and the guys in our optic labs often have to use 3rd party instrumentation software that needs XP. This bugs them. We assume people aren't idiots. But our group can't afford to buy us laptops, only desktops. Really shitty desktops. WE have no problem with OUR laptops being connected to OUR network. We aren't morons.
This allows our people to buy themselves a mac laptop which they can use in unix mode, and then drop into XP when needed.
This is a easy, cheap and convenient solution to their needs.
But this brings an interesting point. If people duel boot Windows for work and OS X for life, then there may be a switch over at work. "Hmmm, I think I will do this presentation Keynote, why not." It creates a mac presence in the work place. Which has to be good.
Disclaimer - I use an Mac OS X 10.4, and Linux Scientific Linux distro's daily. I haven't used Windows for almost 2 years.
And I know this thread will just consist of - "why would you want to do that?" "Whats the point, when your running OS X? It's so much better..."
Shut up. This is a good thing. Many people need to use Windows for work, and this lets do that. Whilst giving them the good stuff at home. Many people like to play computer games that aren't photshop.
By running Linux and a variety of other OSS in a highly Microsoft-centric IT environment, we're learning how those technologies can better interoperate with Microsoft's proprietary technologies.
Really? And then finding ways to stop that happening? It's great if Microsoft were working on ways to help Linux/Windows communication, but I find it doubtful....
Portable devices that replace multiple portables will only do so when one critical flaw has been addressed. The Battery.
I like my DS being separate to my phone because, I can play it and not worry about killing my battery and not being able to receive calls.
I can listen to songs on my mp3 player as I sight-see, and not have to worry that I'm going to kill the battery before I get to the big sights I want to take photos off.
If a business man is on the tube, he likes his blackberry an iPod to be separate because he won't miss any email after listening to music on his commute.
Unless your device can run for over a day - whilst doing everything - continually - then I don't want the stress of balancing battery needs. Portable devices are about reducing stress, "all-in-one" devices don't do that, no matter how many times you write "killer" in the title.
I'm busy today - but you wanted a reply so here are a few points:
1. Your completely correct about microsoft. The Xbox 360 is the most "soulless" console to date.
2. I agree with you to a certain extent about Sony being more creative. They made Ico and SoTC so they get my huge respect there, but I'm less bothered with innovation in the technology involved to be honest. I'm most excited about the Revolution, as that shows "true" innovation despite it's lack of power.
3. With the killzone footage, it's more that they lied about what it represented, and that bothers me. There is no point arguing over the abilities of the machine and whether it is capable of rendering that - I don't believe it is, but as you say we have to wait and see. But it's a very good point about the shadows, but I never noticed the lack of them, so yes I can imagine them leaving them out. I believe Sony wanted to create something very impressive that looked like a real game.
4. My main problem is that the video does not represent what a game will be like on that system, it's too prepared, and dense with detail. I believe that Sony have no intention of making a game that has that level of detail running throughout it. They are lying about the experience they will give you.
But most importantly I said "I believe" about a billion times just then. Lets wait and see. All I know is I was here last time. And I was lied to. They convinced me to help kill a console that on reflection offered the prospect of more original games, with better art - not power.
And this time, I won't do that - I will stand by the Revolution because so far I only see pretty versions of the games I already own coming out of the PS3. And that tires me.
They've done exactly the same as they did for the launch of the PS2 against the dreamcast. Lied about it's abilities: Check. Produced "real time footage" (Final fantasy cut scenes for the PS2 and we all know the PS3 debacle): Check. Lied about the release date: Check. I truly believe they knew all along it wasn't going to be released in "spring."
I remember confidently telling my girlfriend she was a fool for getting a dreamcast as the PS2 "will be so much better" and "they're releasing it real soon." The blood of the Dreamcast is on my stupid hands.
Fool me once Sony shame on you, fool me twice....
They've been doing anything to put you off thinking about a dreamcast/xbox360. And with the root kit fiasco they are pretty muuch dead to me. They need to stop treating me like a moron and a pirate if they want my money.
>My problem with Mario Kart DS is that there's no ranking/ladder type system... so a first time player can be pitted against someone with 1000 wins and 3 losses.
Except for the "Rivals" match which searches for people with similar win/loss records.
"But it's a book based around walking, and a stage is so small..."

Don't be stupid. Please.
Please!

Rather than post and post, about why this is a fucking stupid idea. Lets just all post the words:
Worst. Idea. Ever.
And mod each other +5 insightful.
