    When I first watched Phantom Menace, I did realize that Jar Jar was trying to be Jamaican. I never caught the Asian Trade Federation, until I read about the controversy online. I actually know many Asians that were offended by this portrayal, so I guess it's somewhat legit.

    And today is the first time I have EVER heard that Watto was supposed to be Jewish. I just thought he was greedy. And I went and saw the movie with a Jewish friend.

    Reading the bible won't give you an accurate portrayal of modern Christianity at all, so why would reading the Koran be any better for getting a sense of what modern islam is about?

    Of course it would. Why shouldn't it? Most evangelical Christians try very hard to follow the New Testament.

    That's OK, most of the US is at will employment, so reducing the work week to 32 hours would work just fine in many careers. But in IT, it would be a disaster as we can't find enough people to hire as it is.

    Really? Then why do they have degrees in things such as Medicine, Law, Religion, Business, Psychology, CS, Economics, etc.? Shouldn't there just be one major: Thinking?

    Colleges were created to train people for white-collar jobs. Trade schools were for blue-collar jobs.

    But the reality is that colleges have not kept up with the changing society. There are way too many English and History majors, Lawyers, etc. and not enough low-level tech majors like programming factory robots or other IT tasks, which is where there is massive unemployment.

    Netflix is encouraging my ISP to build out infrastructure, and I'm supposed to be upset that I have to pay for it? More bandwidth is good for everyone, and can be used for anything, not just Netflix. This is unequivocally good.

    No, they are getting your ISP to pay for a Netflix-specific CDN like Akamai, but only for Netflix movies. Still, it IS good, because that means that half of your bandwidth congestion on your peering provider should disappear overnight.

    You'd be amazed. I was at a company where we paid 90% of what we would have paid for Microsoft licenses for Linux "support". It turns out that we NEVER called Microsoft or Linux anyway, so why bother spending hundreds of thousands on support anyway?

    And then when you update your Linux once and the entire thing crashes and burns, you'll go back to Windows. At least, that's what keeps happening to me when I try to switch to Linux.

    Apples were expandable. IBM PCs were expandable. Ataris and Amigas were not. See a pattern?

    Apple got their stuff into schools. IBM got their stuff into small businesses. Atari and Amiga got them into Toys'r'us. It's really that simple.

    Not to mention that your immune system is compromised trying to keep you warm in cold weather. But why let that common, eternal wisdom get in the way of a new study?

    And isn't it dry in cold places like Colorado in the winter? When I was there, it was so dry I got nosebleeds just because of the dryness. And yet people were still getting colds by the dozens.

    What makes it worse in the US is that well over half the cops ARE helpful and apply the laws reasonably. So chances are, you WILL be OK when being helpful to the police. You just don't know when you are talking to the kind of cop that will try to screw you at every turn.
