They didn't ever say, "How do we make the desktop really good? How do we use our massive resources to make our customer's lives better?"
Actually, they did with the ribbon in Office. Despite the learning curve, it allowed them to do things by visual feel that they couldn't do with menus.
Microsoft had a 'smart phone' -- a real computer on a phone with a reasonably capable OS -- long before Apple and Android. Microsoft did see the future and drove into a ditch.
I even called them one day and asked them why I couldn't just install an application directly from the internet. They said, "Nobody wanted to do that." THAT was the deciding factor between iOS and CE. Apple could just install apps directly from the App Store. Android copied them. By the time Microsoft got around to even noticing, they had ceased to be relevant.
My Mom worked for a school district in a bad part of town as, in essence, a truant officer. She tracked down kids that weren't going to school and got the school the money for getting them back in. She earned more than double her salary, but that didn't stop the union from eliminating her position to "save money". Of course, they lost a ton of money because attendance dropped like a rock.
Her father was a ringleader of the Fisher Body Plant strikes that are famous in union history, but by the end of her life, she was anti-union because they no longer did what they were originally designed for. Instead they donated all her dues to political causes she didn't agree with and then eliminated her job which was making the school a profit.
Is THAT why my gamepads are never supported? I was wondering how developers that brilliant could be that stupid. I should have kept the old saying in mind: If it's screwed up, it must have been a lawyer or marketer behind it.
Actually, although the ribbon was frustrating at first, the ability to apply 3-4 styles at once WYSIWYG is a great benefit. But even with the obvious improvements, the ribbon was tough to swallow for most people.
Actually, freedom of speech ABSOLUTELY does mean freedom from government consequences. We narrow it in a few cases (lying/fraud, reporting false threats, etc.) because those are demonstrably harmful.
He stole that from David Packard of HP. Back in the LaserJet/InkJet days, his motto was to "put ourselves out of business every 6 months". And back then, they usually succeeded.
There was a graduating class of the 1920s at my university (which was very small then) and all the women had EXACTLY the same haircut, whether it looked good on them or not. You could find the same thing up through the 1950s. Even growing up in the 1970s, everybody pretty much wore the same things but in the 80s it changed into the "groups" that you see in the movies: jocks, nerds, gangs, artists, emos, etc. Since then, it has only become more diverse.
You said it yourself. Any lock is the difference between trespassing and breaking and entering. It doesn't matter how poor the lock is, the lock signifies that the person expects privacy.
In the same way, if your WiFi is completely unlocked, you are signalling to the world that you don't care about privacy. If you put any lock on it (even easily-cracked WEP), you are saying "I expect privacy".
It's clear the spreading of disbelief is the real motivator here. Kill in the name of God.
Exactly. When I read this: "a merchant of death & a satanic force of evil, has a long inglorious record of spreading nothing but poverty, dependency & disbelief", for a moment I thought they were talking about their brand of radical Islam.
They have far more than 4 people at a time doing this. It's not inflated. In fact, people in the UK are complaining about all the cops being busy doing this instead of looking at other crimes that need attention.
Isn't it a little dangerous to visit the ladies in Sweden lately? A "Mr. Assange" warned me...
Stalin compared killing people to mowing the lawn... We're still a far way from that.
We make China look like amateur hour. Stalin? a blip.
Now. How can anyone argue that there's no such thing as "brainwashing", or that it only works on stupid or ignorant people?
They killed millions of people each. They weren't content to put them all in prison.
If you don't mind your dev code out in the cloud. What could possibly go wrong?

If they are inline, the url itself would be listed first.
The NotScript extension for Chrome works almost identically to NoScript.
Why class action? If they made you pay fees, they didn't pay you. Get a lawyer. The back pay for missed paychecks adds up pretty quickly.
This is very informative. I seriously never thought about this scenario. Thanks.

Nope, just in jail for 4½ months for making a joke post immediately followed by LOL JK. But no sentence...

I already commented, but this was funny.
I prefer "The Bible". I hear it's a best-seller.
I'm an Australian who lives in NYC
Internet speed is pretty fucking fast here.
Compared to what?
Compared to...Australia? You know, where the OP is from? Try to keep up.

Teach you to cut the NASA budget by 5%! Now can we have that increase?
Shh, don't reveal the secrets upfront!
