Hundreds of millions of dollars has gone to legal fees? So in other words, the one's who are supposed to be taken care of and the ones who do all the work, the artist get nothing? Isn't that like saying I fight in the name of Allah yet I don't believe in Islam? All the benefit's and justification of backing something to justify your cause. Yet in the end they have nothing to show for it. Pretty typical, can it get any worse for the RIAA? They should be ashamed and they deserve all the bad PR they get. I hope they burn to the ground in the next decade. They are worthless and more trouble then they are worth.
I have been working with vista for a little bit now. I am not really sure what to say about it. I think just having a newer os is nice. After using xp since it came out its boring, there are still the same old bugs and lack of new features, it still uses ie6, I now use FireFox so that isn't that big of a deal.
the thing that bothers me the most is the Microsoft could quite simply never release an upgrade. They could sit on xp forever. Who can force them to release it? Who can force Microsoft to do anything? Not even the justice system could do anything about it. So Microsoft with their 30 percent of 40 billion of a year can do whatever they wish. They can stagnate the entire information technology industry and continue to destroy competition and who will stop them? The common folk are too ignorant and blind to what is good, what is better and what is useful.
We all know that Microsoft is lazy, they use the word innovation like a religious person uses the word god. They simply don't know what it means. They copy, everyone else. They come out with competing products after others are well established. They know, they are not going to make a superior product. So they will wait it out until the other guy makes a mistake. This example can be used for the os market, the office suite, the portable handheld market and even the console market. All of these markets that Microsoft gets into are money black holes. No other products Microsoft has other then windows and office would allow them to survive. Everything they make is copies and is far inferior to what they are competing with.
quite simply Microsoft needs an entire new CEO on down. They need innovation which means new products. they need to play fair and embrace their competition, not eliminate it. Some of you might be saying well that's business. The fact is Microsoft has more enemies in the world then friends. When the desktop computer changes, which it will. Microsoft will be grabbing for straws . With companies like Google, apple, IBM with Linux and Mozilla I don't see Microsoft doing much more growing.
The simple fact is, Microsoft can't compete with free. They have failed in every attempt to compete with free products. They can destroy others that are fee based but once that free comes in, the tech community goes nuts with all the products that are great. As soon as there is a viable os that plays windows games and an office program that works as well as office that has 100 percent compatability taht is free, Microsoft will be out of business within a few years. This will be enough time to get all the government agencies and corporate customers off of the cancer which is Microsoft.
The sad thing is that delaying Vista forever wouldn't affect them. They will still have over 90 percent of the users. Computers are still being sold, OEM's will still be buying XP and Office 2003 is still being sold in that arena. So why should MS even care? Yeah it would give MS some press and a splurge of people buying the OS or Office 2003. But it's not going to be as big of a deal as xp or even 95 was. Xp is good enough and spending however much money on a new os that offers little if anything really worth the upgrade. A new 3d interface that you must have recent hardware to even get, the fact the new interface has gotten very mediocre reviews at best. I guess the world just needs something new right?
They make billions of dollars a year to do this, are you saying they are not capable of supporting their own products. Maybe they should just issue the shutdown command that they already have embedded in the Windows auto update service and end it early, so everyone can finally switch to Linux and the I.T. industry can finally move forward and profits can finally be spread around.
This is pretty generous but it reminds me of that new movie coming out about 9/11 and the company who made it is donating 10 percent, of the profits to the families of 9/11 I assume 10 percent divided equally among the thousands. Now that is generous, but could they have made it 11-100 percent instead? After all they are making money on the tragic event. Anyway off topic, donate more you not for profit organization who pays no taxes. You do good things but you seem to be slowing down I guess because all your important programers are making lots of money for big companies, such as google.
I am not just excited to see a calender to go with my cranbers@gmail.com account but I am thanking google for the days I won't have to use yahoo's crap anymore. The thing that is great about google is that, they are not the first to do these things, but I have no doubt they will be the first to do it right. Their office offering is going to be great as well I have no doubt!
The post I just read was long as hell! I think that it's fine mozilla makes some cash on the side. That is why they came up with the mozilla corporation now so they could do just that. Does that make them greedy? Well I think the original thought was good, and it exploded and has been much more popular then they ever realized, is that making them a little more shady? I dont think so, I just think they need to continue to develop the browser and not sit on the money they are making if that is the case. I know there are alot of people who donate money to them and yeah that would make me upset too.
I have office 2003 and open office on my computer. If I had some simple document to write then either would be fine. I find though that out of habit I end up using word just used to it. Now will I be upgrading to a newer version of office? I don't think so. I will be using google's office product when it comes out. I have no doubt they will get an excellent product out under their name when all is said and done. I also have no doubt it will be much more effective and advanced and cheaper then both office and open office.
I know Ms knows better then this, they were found guilty once again of doing something wrong, they are stalling and playing dumb once again as usual. Why can't they just grow up and take their punishment like a mature grown up would instead of a whiny cry baby. I can't believe they even tried to get help from our own courts. What in the world can the u.s. court do to convince another government legal system to change their mind?
That is proof right there of my point. It really is who will back down first, will the eu give in or will Microsoft? I would love to see Microsoft pull out of Europe in protest, but no they wouldn't do that in the end they will cooperate. Appearently the EU can't be bought as easily as our system can. I mean damn Microsoft it's not like they are threatening to break you up or anything. Just do what they ask and move one like you do with every other lawsuit, punishment you ever have had against you which is what like no. 182,000.
The person who wrote this admitted it himself that what people were doing was true, so what's the problem? Ie is a piece of crap, long outdated and should not be in the shape its in after 5 years and if it wasn't for firefox there would be no ie7 for xp. In regards to the other things I would assume the amount of downloads is usually repeat downloaders, I know when I reformat my computer and start from scratch I have redownloaded firefox at least a dozen times since it was released. So yeah odds are the results are not accurate of users, but there are a lot of them no doubt. I love firefox and I hope they continue to improve the product and get some good bug fixes and security in the next version. But please keep it light and let us, add features with the extensions features.
Ok, first of all loose the busy screen. Why do I need all that other crap to come up if I am just going to do a search. Just do what you do with everything else microsoft and COPY them directly or just buy them out. If you can't beat em Buy em.
Second, while I think the scrolling added on the fly search results is cool. The window size is rediculously small, it takes 20 percent processor power to scroll down and it's very slow. I don't know why they would roll out a beta that is in horendous shape and really wasn't meant to be tested yet. What were they thinking, really? If google every rolled out a product or service in this shape they would never hear the end of it. Microsoft, boasting it's google killer will do it and probably get away with it. However, judging by the majority of posts on this forum, they should be rather embarassed. Did they not do a limited beta first?
Also keep in mind some people might be coming to slashdot on a computer not their own and have ie forced on them. As a lot of corporate computers are behind on times.
You know Microsoft is becoming known for that, imagine having billions of dollars in r&d and this is the product you come out with. Any other company would be out of business a long time ago, good thing they have office and windows to finance it right!
You know I agree, I am not sure it's possible to use traditional means to improve on google's offerings. The only real way to improve would be to, well read our minds. If there is a way I am sure google will figure it out long before Microsoft will. To make it simple, google has done everything right and are profiting greatly from that. I see google increasing their search share from this ordeal, not Microsoft gaining.
I seen that on dl.tv episode 42. They were using a Mac system and started making fun of Msn search because it was literally taking minutes to load. They then switched to a windows system and sure enough it worked in a few seconds. Microsoft, if your going to go live with a new project, make sure it works with other systems and don't "assume" everyone uses ie and windows xp....
Yeah the new search isn't all that great. If this is their google killer and it's nearly finished I would say good luck MS. While your busy making yourself looking like a new comer to the software development world, google will be launching google office.
Well that is true, but I do think that Amd will continue to benefit from Intel's relaxed state. Intel will continue to sell their chips, but Dell may in that time frame start a product line up with Amd due to demand. Amd could very well push to 25 percent market share. And yes of course the world could end as well. But I am going to go with the increased market share by amd.
