I didn't say that they hadn't taken inspiration from the iPhone or the iPad but Apple wasn't the first with that design but they were the first to do it successfully. But you should look at the Nokia 7710 which launched in 2004 or even the Palm Pilot for prior inspiration since essentially what they created was a PDA with a phone. The same story with the iPad. There are many more examples of iPad predecessors having a very similar form and to extent function but again Apple was the first to really do it successfully.

EDS has actually done some pretty impressive work in a few areas especially when you consider where they had to start. The problem is now that they've done the majority of the technical stuff their shortcomings have begun to overshadow any past success. They EPIC fail at customer service, major problems took over a week to fix (usually about how long it took get a tech on site) and minor issues like not being able to print (usually because drivers were needed) could take months.

This was with trained people on site they wouldn't allow to have administrative privileges.

Motorola has a few billion in cash on hand, the set top portion of the company has been conservatively valued at about $2.5B if sold today so Google effectively paid $6.5B for 24,000 patents, many of which can provide protection against the likes of Apple and Microsoft in the mobile market, and got the entire phone design and manufacturing part of the company for free. There are very few ways Google didn't get a good deal here for the long term and almost all of them involve those 24,000 patents being near worthless and Android being heavily saddled with licensing issues.

It means they either need to keep two production lines running to support two different chips or alienate some customers with the price hike once inventory of the cheap chip is depleted. The older cheap chip would be directly cannibalizing sales of the new chip even if they're intended to occupy the same product space in their lineup causing inventory and production issues. The easiest way to eliminate that is offer a better chip at the same price and the market will readily move to the better chip and a few months down the line they can clearance sale any residual inventory of the old chip.

Maybe not for LG and HTC (and the other fringe companies) but it could potentially create an arms race between Motorola(Google) and Samsung to release better ROMs now that Google owns Moto. This is just another move on the chess board. Google bought Motorola which will invariably give Motorola the inside track on Android to some extent. Samsung realized that while their hardware has been quite good their software has been severely lacking in both quality and updates. This hire makes perfect sense, it allows them to produce higher quality software (the goal being to improve upon Google's not just dress it up pretty) with a better update policy. If they actually allow their software to be run like CM has been (and force it through the providers) then it puts LG and HTC in poor positions long term.

The thing is there is no purpose to the riots. The roving mobs of vandals have no goals beyond stealing as much as possible and causing damage. When there is no issue or problem for you to address sometimes the only way to resolve a situation is by making the risk drastically out weigh the reward. Start shooting rioters and you'll end the riots right quick, it would be VERY different if there was popular support for the rioters or if they had an agenda.

These aren't ideas that people are rioting for, they're iPads.
