OK, I haven't seen it, it may never even come out here, but are you serious? Paul Atriedies is not Luke Skywalker! He is noble heir, a mentat, trained as a soldier, general, politician, priest and more. He is not your average 15 year old:)
Skywalker, OTOH, also has good breeding, but he was raised on a farm! Not the same thing by far.
Besides, Skywalker is a dyed-in-the-wool good guy. Mau'dib is better compared to Genghis Kahn or Alexander the Great:)
I heard this on the radio while I was on the way into work this morning and promptly forgot about it until someone sent me a reminder email about an hour ago.
I haven't noticed any appreciable slow-down at all. Gamespy is still as dog-slow as ever. Everything else is snappy. Even the Chechen Mujahadeen site (which was in Japan last time I looked) came up OK. I account for probably 20% of traffic for my BU on an average day, so I reckon this may be largely a media beatup.
Mind you, we're not Big Pond customers. Telstra is, AFAIK, our backbone. If I could convince the boss to re-enable outbound ICMP I'd do a tracert and see what's up.
Anyone having this problem firsthand? Post here if you can't get to http://slashdot.org:)
I haven't used Hypernet, but the service at my place of employment from Agile Communications is very good. We have a AeroNet 2 Mb RF bridge which is fast, cheap and easy to use. We can go to 10 Mb at our option. The inherent advantage of wireless over wired is the main selling point. Fibre costs a small fortune in this area. The only disadvantage we have encountered has been some minor issues with antenna configuration which the service providers resolved. FWIW I think Aeronet has recently been purchased by Cisco. We're looking at a Cisco end-to-end voice/ip solution at the moment, it's all compatible.
The Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) is established to provide information, advice and assistance to the New Zealand Government and government departments and organisations. The Director GCSB is responsible to the Prime Minister for the efficient management and financial performance of the Bureau and for its operational control.
The functions of the GCSB are:
Communications Security;
Computer Security;
Technical Security; and
Signals Intelligence.
No military, foriegn affairs, law-enforcement or statutory responsibilities, but they have a signals intelligence brief! In other words, the pollie's personal spy branch!
Being in the UKUSA pact sucks:( Sometimes I wish Japan had won:( I'd still be living under Imperialism (in Australia), but it'd be Tenchi Muyo, not Britanny Spears.
That'd be the military-industrial complex buttering up politicians to create new markets for their death toys. Plus a bit of Yankee imperialism thrown in for good measure. The Columbians have a peace treaty in place with the Marxists, which Uncle Sam doesn't like, so the War on Drugs provides a good cover for some old school "counter insurgency".
And not necessarily equivalent to safe or dangerous. EG: Skydiving=legal, unsafe. Shoplifting=illegal, safe.
> There's no quality assurance of any kind

Or it might not be. Studying CS might be your ticket to utter loserdom. Getting maimed in a car accident might be your ticket to utter loserdom. Winning the lottery might be your ticket to utter loserdom. Everyone's life is different.
> How do you know it's not full of heroine?
It's no more likely to be full of herion than a hotdog, a can of coke or a aspirin. Anything could be "laced" with heroin in theory. Where did you get the idea that people put heroin in marijuana from?
> You should pay more attention to officer Joe, he knows all the dealers and he's not making any money by lying
They guys job is to tell people not to take drugs because all illegal drugs will ruin your life and make you an addict - therefore he does make money from lying:(
When the Amiga does rise up again, I will know about it because I read it here on slashdot.org:)
BTW, it's not really an Amiga in the literal sense; it's a whole new platform. Flame away if you're a neophobe, but don't hate it just because you hated the Amiga.
That's the way I always envisioned the Internet should work. Ideally we all need hard-core 24x7 links and more sophisticated firewall software at home and things will be just swell.
The average PC is a very powerful machine but it's usually thought of as a "low end system". Really it's more hardcore than any of the old systems that ran on arpa.net etc so if you think of your home machine in terms of a "node", rather than just a client or server, we could build a much cooler, more user-oriented Internet.
Lots of good free DNS services would help too. I guess these will come in time, just as free email and free hosting services etc are now available (in the peer-to-peer Net, services like outsourced hosting and email would, of course, be totally redundant - we can do all that on our own machines)
You know, when I think about it, Year One really didn't have that much of a story... I mean, 90% of the drama seemed to centre of Jim Gordon, Bruce just did the action scenes:) The bulk of it was introspective narrative, IIRC. Not so good for Hollywood treament.
The Dark Knight Returns, OTOH, would probably take a nine-hour miniseries to realise....
And how is this going to fit into the established continuity of the Batman movies? The Year One book and the Burton film seem to contradict each other a bit.... oh wait, I just remembered how Billy Dee Williams turned into Tommy Lee Jones, never mind....
Hmmm, they'd better not cast that fat tosser Pat Hingle as Gordon...:(
You know, I realise Clint Eastwood is a great actor and all, but I've never really liked any of his characters or movies.... but Eastwood as the voice of the Dark Knight is THE BEST PIECE OF CASTING I HAVE EVER HEARD!!! You are a genius - may I worship you?
I don't think Frank Miller is much of a screenwriter. While Dark Knight and Year One are amongst my favourite comics of all time, I wasn't even that impressed with his other books. Robocop 2 and 3 sucked donkey balls, remember?
The way I see it, the primary purpose of University is to advance the state of the art of national military warfighting capabilities, and should therefore be avoided wherever possible (unless you are into that sort of thing).
One does not have to release one's binaries either you know. One does not have to release anything. Borland's license grants you the right to release binaries, it does not say anywhere that you have to.
We sure do. Or I do at least. Viva Amiga! The pissy "architecture" is a bad joke perpetrated on the computer-buying public for the last 20 years (my god, has it really gone one that long? *sigh*).
Yeah but did he determine that it looked like KtF because of the non-fractal bi-lateral symmetry or just general morphism? The people who postulated the "Artificial Cydonia" hypothesis did so based on serious research findings, not because they felt "fed up" or they found something that "looked like" something else.
This is not intended to flame you. Or to throw my support behind any particular hypothesis. I'm just pointing out an alternative point of view:)
Or what about a comic book? 'The Dark Knight Returns' is a good example of how the medium could be used.
So his nickname therefore is "Toofy"?
Did it have the death of Thufir Hawat? That was in the script, and mentioned in the making-of, but didn't make it to the version I've seen.
I said no text damnit!

Wow, check these GCSB guys out, scary stuff.

I don't know what that is!!
Good summation of the mantra too

Mod this one up: Ironic

Stuff that gets you really high on a small quantity.

We've been friends since High School and run businesses together for a start.

Because it helps me to feel good and stay frosty when the world is going mad around me
You don't like drugs. That's your perogative, good on you. But you don't need to force your choices on others, which is what the WoD does.
