"You know, I haven't seen Slashdot come to the aid of (insert your favorite cause here)"
"Screw helping the (insert your favorite oppressed minority here)"
slashdot can't address every single injustice in life; they choose stories based on what they think is appropriate for the site. yes, it's arbitrary; it's allowed to be.  if you don't like it, make your own website.
first of all, let me state that i agree with the gist of your post. that said, though, there are a couple factors you overlook:
1. the availability of software written by enthusiasts suffers because they have day jobs and bills to pay; most simply don't have 8-12 hours a day to devote to writing software; whether they enjoy it or not is irrelevant.
2. you say, "Other people don't even get reimbursed for buying a ball and a net, but they play anyway." that's a good analogy, but consider the extension of it: the guy shooting hoops in his driveway doesn't have the same game as a pro.
its. "it's" is the contraction of "it is." every single day with this s**t. jesus, malda (and the rest of you too), illiteracy is a huge gaping torpedo wound in your credibility. try just a little, huh?
yeah, but that's something that sucks; one of the basic premises of the linux "philosophy" is that it offers a better way than the microsoft way - by doing things "their" way, linux fails to transcend the status quo.
please don't flame, i'm not a zealot (win2k looks pretty nice so far, but i'll stick with my suse box for now 8-)

from the we-will-be-getting-duplicate-submissions-of-this-
and given your recent track record i guess you'll post it a couple more times as well   ;-)
there are already _so_ many other sources of windows information. if i need to learn about windows service packs i go to microsoft.com.
if slashdot reported on everything, it wouldn't be good at anything; without focus, it would be useless.  i like it the way it is, thanks.

..the fact that corperate... ...one of the largest corperations...
by the way, those words are spelled "corporate" and "corporation".  too bad they can't afford literate help...

exactly!
question: if MS has taken open kerberos and made it proprietary, are they still allowed to call it kerberos?
yeah, but that's something that sucks; one of the basic premises of the linux "philosophy" is that it offers a better way than the microsoft way - by doing things "their" way, linux fails to transcend the status quo.
